XP SysPad is a program launcher that automatically locates all your applications, system utilities, control panel applets etc. on startup and presents them in a single window for easy access. It also displays a variety of other information, including process list and system details. You can minimize it to the system tray or roll it up with a right-click of the title bar.

Launchy is a spectacular launcher as well. Unfortunately it insists on building the index every time it starts instead of keeping a quick-reference database and performing small updates when necessary. Guillotine is also worthy of mention.

The interface menu shortcuts are better than scrambling through the start menu, desktop shortcuts, and remembering run commands. I don't consider myself a novice user, I just like the convenience of having everything in one place. Great application!

SyMenu is a customizeable menu launcher that allows to organize and find your portable applications in a quick and easy way. Moreover, it can automatically link any application residing on host PC. Any linked item (SyItem) can be organized in a hierarchical structure with colorful folders and found with the internal search tool. The Standard for Portable Software (SPS) allows to install, update and remove the programs available in the SyMenu suites automatically, see more in Manual.

As the last comment is nearly four years old, I think it's needless to mention that SyMenu actually supports Windows 10. In my case the application even reached the "autostart-status", which is really a coronation for an app. Furthermore, since eight months I am contributing to the large Program Suite as SPS-Publisher. During this time I made the experience of a respectful athmosphere under the people behind SyMenu, which I could talk to so far. Except the developer of course, keep away from this crazy guy...btw hello Gian my friend and greetings to Italy ;-) So, all-in-all in my personal opinion this application is really worth a try and I'm sure it even get's better from day to day! |
Portable Application Launcher (archived) organizes shortcuts into groups and categories. It's accessed via the system tray or user-defined hotkeys. Several styles and some languages are included. It can also be used as a portable desktop. PAL is capable of automatically installing PortableApps.com Format (PAF) applications, as well as many entries here on PortableFreeware. An included browser for downloading apps can be used with Universal Extractor and a simplistic updater module.
The program includes several extras not included in other launcher programs including favorites bar, "most-used apps" menu, file manager & search, simple RSS & iCal readers, timer, and more.
A 64-bit version is available (within the folder).

This is THE BEST portable launcher I have found so far with tons of features and customizations. Sadly, it looks like development has been discontinued. The website is down and there hasn't been an update since long :( |
radialM allows you to manage your machine using radial menus (also known as pie-menu) and pull-down menus. These can be invoked using a mouse button, mouse combinations (rocket gestures) or hotkeys. You can configure each command to do almost anything, from launching an application, to sending keystrokes to a running application, to invoking another command.

@Cattleya: probably because latest version was released in 2007 -- but since it is GPLed, feel free to update it, if you can... ;)

AdvancedRun allows you to run a program with different settings that you choose, including - low or high priority, start directory, main window state (Minimized/Maximized), run the program with different user or permissions, Operating system compatibility settings and environment variables.
You can also save the desired settings into a configuration file and then run the program automatically from command-line with the desired settings.

AutoStart creates an icon in the system tray for each external memory device connected to the system. Right-clicking on this icon opens a context menu that allows you to conveniently perform various related functions (explore, search, eject, properties).
Left-clicking opens the drive in Explorer by default but the default application can be specified in the "shell" parameter of AUTORUN.INF. AutoStart also comes with a rudimentary launcher that is functional if you have a small number of applications stored on your memory stick.

I wouldn't call the the launcher "rudimentary". It works great and I actually find it better than other menus.

Still available from Softpedia. Tested, works as expected. Shame about the lack of Unicode support, but still extremely handy. |
Quick Cliq is an application launcher and productivity tool that provides quick access folders, files, programs, links and command-line operations as well as window management, clipboard manipulation and text "memos". The compact menu can be displayed anywhere via keyboard shortcut or mouse gesture, even within applications.

Hidden Menu creates an invisible menu only visible when the mouse is moved over a section of your screen (by default the bottom-right). A user-defined menu pops up allowing you to launch applications, files and shortcuts. You can also drag-and-drop applications directly to this menu, which can hold multiple columns as well as labeled separators.

Responsive and light on resources. However, there is no one-click feature to easily remove entries from the interface.

My Win XP installation has toolbar problems - the toolbars take upwards of 15 seconds to initialize and often need to reinitialize during the day; probably some strange conflict with my antivirus software. To compensate, I've been looking for a good application launcher that allows me to group / subgroup the shortcuts and I think I've found it with Tray Launcher. |
