Crashes a lot, and pieces of windows get "left behind" over the interface, like the chat text and then slowly scrolls out of view. Very bad.

This is 37mb for two reasons: a) it is a GTK app and includes the full GTK runtimes in the package, and B) it contains full localization for dozens of languages.

Version note: This program has not been updated since 2016 and may contain security vulnerabilities. Please see this entry for the latest version of Opera.
Opera (Presto) is a discontinued version of the Opera web browser, meaning feature development and maintenance for this version of Opera has ceased. Compared to the newer version based on Google Chrome, it features a leaner memory footprint, more user-interface customization, an RSS reader, integrated e-mail client, IRC chat, and native BitTorrent support. A variety of extensions are available to further extend functionality.

Love the simplicity, ease of use, familiar look and feel, but the program doesn't reconnect when there's a connection problem (I have a bad one) so I'm constantly restarting the program. |
MegaIRC is an Internet Relay Chat client that can work in one-windowed mode, putting all private, channel, and system messages in same window. Supports proxy, SSL, and various server encodings.
The program can also work in a debug mode where all server messages will be shown as-is, according to IRC protocol.
Note: Based on user comments and due to a listing by multiple services as malicious, it has been replaced with the Softpedia download.

It doesn't support UTF-8, despite it's "multilingual" inferface (which apparently was created with machine translations).

The website wants you to complete a survey or download games before you can download the application. Very bad style... |

Dana is a skinnable, single-server IRC client. Very light and "barebones," Dana is great for users that just want to chat on IRC, but will leave more advanced users searching for a more capable client.
Note: Official website has been offline since 2011. Linking to archive.org (thanks lastaltoid).

It's safe, but without Unicode support, a chat software almost useless.

Web site is gone! Wayback machine's last capture is from December 2011. In view of the above comments regarding should this be removed from the database?

I think the website offline notice will be plenty of warning on it's own. It might be useful for someone that wants a very low resource usage IRC client in a closed network (you never know). |
