The registry files can be opened with drag-and-drop and all registry files including SYSTEM, SOFTWARE, SAM, NTUSER.DAT, SECURITY, USERDIFF and DEFAULT are supported.

Used this program to successfully extract keys from an older backup of the Registry hive files. Followed an online guide which recommended it since it automatically tweaks the exported key file with the correct path for importing into the registry.

GSplit is a versatile file-splitter that can split a large file into multiple parts based on user-specified parameters. It is also able to generate self-uniting executables (with file corruption auto-detection) that do not require any program on the destination machine.
This is useful for transferring files when there is a bandwidth or storage cap.

Wow did this work well! It's a no-brainer to use and did exactly what it said it would do. I tried to cram a huge 143MB file through the system yesterday and it kept choking and dying - after an hour of trying. I used GSplit and it went through in under five minutes for all of the smaller files. I tested re-assembly on my end and it was a no-brainer too.

@rogerthedodger: you can download the PortableApps.com package. Extract or install it, the contents of the APP folder is all you need, delete the rest. After the first launching of IcoFX.exe the configuration files will be created

The busy XP screenshot doesn't do the app justice. Worthwhile app for icon creation and extraction. Main limitation of this version is the lack of 512px+ size support, which OSX and now Windows 10 support. |
FastStone Capture is a powerful, flexible and intuitive screen-capture utility. It allows you to capture anything on the screen including windows, objects, full screen, rectangle regions, freehand-selected regions and scrolling windows/web pages. It has innovative features such as a floating Capture Panel, hotkeys, resizing, cropping, text annotation, printing, e-mailing, screen magnifier and many more.
Reported to function in Windows 7 and in Linux under WINE.
Note: FastStone Capture went payware starting from v5.4 so I have made the last freeware version available (v5.3) for direct download as the license agreement does not prohibit redistribution.

@jimdorey: I'm a little confused why we had a listing that this works with Win10 -- it really doesn't. When this version of the program stopped being developed, Win7 wasn't even out yet. Anyway, I recommend trying another software package for that OS. I've updated the entry.

@jimdorey: v5.3 works fine on my win 10 x64 using a 1080p screen resolution. Maybe you're using a high DPI screen/4k monitor, and only the last version (8.4, payware, but worth every penny) works fine in that case.

Proxomitron is a local HTTP web-filtering proxy. It contains a powerful text matching engine specially designed to re-write web pages on the fly. You can use one of the built-in filtering rules, modify them or even write your own. With Proxomitron, you can stop pop-up, pop-under or pop-over ad windows, convert ads/banners into simple text links, freeze animated GIFs, stop blinking text etc.
Note: The original author of Proxomitron has passed on, and the program is no longer being developed.

I've been using proxomitron since win95, more than 10 years now. Best ad/trash/online scam filter EVER. Best thing is, no matter what new exploit shows up.. all you need are a few lines of code to block it/modify it. This baby literally rewrites the web.

For those interested: someone managed to decompile Proxomitron completely, analyse and rebuild it, dubbed Proxomitron Reborn. More information in the forum thread https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1486 |
Push the Freakin' Button (PTFB) is a button pressing utility. When you wish to automatically dismiss a dialog box, you can configure PTFB to "push" a particular button by using drag-and-drop, and it will function as instructed when the dialog box pops up the next time.

i also use rtvreco and like it much. i agree it is far better than this one. well worth the 'payware' price. it will do much more and find more windows than ptfb will and give user more choices what to do when it recognizes a window...

It doesn't actually help how much better the other product is as this is a "freeware" listing. The name "The Portable Freeware Collection" does not indicate the use of payware does it?

RtvReco doesn't even exist anymore. gbj and Shodan are probably spammers who were trying to push the software. |
Abilon is a RSS feeds aggregator. You can store interesting items in memories for later retrieval. In addition, you can set archival options for each feed so that recent items are retained even when they are removed from the feed. This is very useful for catching up on news after a long vacation.
Note: You can make Abilon support enclosures by editing the file "rssitem.templ" in the "Themes" folder and append "<<RSSITEM.ENCLOSURES>>" at the end of the file (no quotes). Then restart Abilon and it will display links to the enclosures at the bottom of each feed message. Thanks to "PJ"
