I just downloaded using the link here and got the previous version 6.3.1. Downloaded again from the website and got the right one. The link on the website Download page (Portable Version) is different to the one here.

Great little utility. I regularly have a lot of zip files I need to move to different locations. This is a real timesaver.

This covert install of a hard-to-remove Windows service is the final nail in Stinger's coffin. More info on ghacks: http://www.ghacks.net/2015/05/11/mcafee-stinger-installs-mcafee-validation-trust-protection-service/

"McAfee Stinger has been removed from the Portable App Directory due to malware-like behavior".

IMHO Portable Freeware should do the same. This site has an enviable reputation in the IT community I inhabit as a trusted source for software downloads ie for NOT bundling foistware in its offerings, in stark contrast to the increasingly dubious practices of previously worthy sites. Let's not go there!

Checker on 2015-06-08 19:13

Latest version of Stinger reduced file size from 15.458.672 Byte to 9.765.744 Byte.
Does it still install the unwanted Windows service?
... I won't check this out ;)

Why all the fuss over RAR? The biggest problem is getting RAR to ZIP so it's compatible to more people in the world, not less. 1980 called, they want their compressor back.

Midas on 2014-05-25 19:18

The changelog posted is for ArcConvert v0.66, plus there now seems to be a 64 bits version linked at the bottom of the Sourceforge page ("Update for 64bit OS").

Note also that although WinRAR gives you a 30 day trial, as the meme goes, it will never end...

(e.g., http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3q6w51)

webfork on 2014-05-30 23:25

DavidRoper: even among very technical people, I can't seem to get anyone to use anything but ZIP. The dream of getting people to use one of a number of radically better compression formats has been going on for over a decade now and at this stage just seems like a lost cause.

TreeCopy is a unique directory copier taking the various folders the source folder to a set of empty target folders. Its unique from similar tools as it copies only the directory structure and not the files. This is useful for developers and in testing.

This functionality is similar to the windows command line "xcopy" i.e. XCOPY source [destination] /T /E, but this tool allows this action without needing to remember command line switches.

I like user interface, but TreeCopy do not copy my file or folder.

shnbwmn on 2015-12-07 09:34

According to the website, it also works on Win 7 and 8. I'm hesitant to use it on Win 10 since it says "TreeCopy will only work successfully on these specific Windows operating systems:", and then doesn't list Win 10.

To Gawran: those non-techs such as myself would rather use a larger, "clumsy" program with a GUI than fiddle with commands.
