KMPlayer is a audio/video player that supports a wide range of file formats, including AVI, MKV, MPEG, OGM, MP4, ASF etc. without any additional codecs installed. It also has full VCD/DVD playback functionality. In addition, it is able to play incomplete/damaged AVI files, or media files that are locked while downloading or sharing.

The Brazilian Portuguese is not the real language, because Files in Brazilian are not "ficheiros". They are called "Arquivos". =( I have to change to English, because Portuguese of Portugal is not my preference.

webfork: Thanks for answering. It looks like the file I got from MajorGeeks is corrupted because I redownloaded and still didn't extract correctly. I searched for another host and now all the files extract as usual.
(Looks like I can't post vtotal urls here)

kanu: thanks for your post but I just tested both with UniExtractor and 7zip and both worked fine.
4.2.1.2
Since latest version -at least- the exe file can't be extracted with Universal Extractor / Pea Extractor / 7Zip.
Only results in 0 bits sized files.
4.2.1.2
Assuming you have "extracted" the files/folders from the download:
To get rid of the "ads" and "offers" that pop up when KMPlayer
is opened, you should
1. Open Notepad
2. File > Save As
a. Navigate to the Logo folder within your KMPlayer folder
b. in the File Name box, type index.htm
c. in the Save as type box, change to All Files (*.*)
3. Save

v3.6.0.87
The current version is 3.3. kmpmedia.net links to download.cnet.com for downloads. If you get if from there, it first wants to place on your computer a special installer program. Is there any other place to get the current version from?
V2.9.3
3.2.0.19 is the latest version. Create the KMPcfg.ini file with....
[\Software\KMPlayer\KMP3.0\OptionArea]
ConfigUseIni=int:1
...Just keeps getting better.
V2.9.3
there's a new programmer (or a new team maybe) which has taken over the kmplayer development. did not test the latest version for portability though, but from what i've seen, there was a warning in the previous version if you tried to run kmplayer portably, which is gone in the new build, so there is hope in the horizon :)
V2.9.3
Now the KM Player is updated 3.0.0.1440. It is not updated in portable freeware. Also compare with PotPlayer
V2.9.3
Because I didn't know how to use the intended subtitle layout for a video using KMP I'd always avoid it when it came to subtitled videos. KMP would use these ugly buldging subtitles by default. I prefered VLC or MPC to handle it. Recently I stumbled on video releases by a group called Coalgirls and their videos failed to play on any other Media Player other than KMP. So I played with the settings and found a solution to fix the ugly subtitles and use the intended subtitle layout for the video. Go to preferences (F2) and then click on "Subtitle Processing" and then "Multi-Sub/ etc" And then under "External Subtitle Module" tick the checkbox "Enable" for .ass .ass2 .ssa .ssf .srt. Finally under "ETC" tick the check bos "Use the deafult subtitles color defined in SMI". That did the job of using the intended subtitle layout for videos that were played with KMP.
V2.9.3
Nice Player, The 2.9.3 has better (BIGGER) buttons than the 3.001439 series;
These are too small on my screen....
Succes................Peter.........................
Simply the best.
Integrated codecs, format support... Best portable player I've ever seen!
[2010/11/08] The KMPlayer 3.0.0.1439 Release
- http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17639
what's the proper way to make portable the latest (1435) version?
uniextract doesn't work on this.
I don't know why we got an RSS feed update coming through for a "new version" 2.9.3 - I've had 2.9.4.1345 from the home page for close to a year by now.
http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14938
This player is great, but not new versions for a while. I'm not sure they are developing it anymore :(
@guys complaining about download; You can get the latest (and older versions) at filehippo.com
@the_watcher If you are installing the newer version, just ignore the second dialog box that comes up after the Setup Wizard has finished. If you accept the "Default Settings" on this dialog box, you'll have simply allowed KMPlayer to leave its keys on the registry.
Pros: Cool app. Has got better images than VLC. I like the GOM Player's skin. Volumewise, you can get 400 per cent similar to VLC.
Cons: It's quite heavy on the Processor. VLC and MPlayer WW are lighter.
i think this program seems to bee a greatr idea to explore in portable app.
Like a Media center to see tv in tv card , needs a good record capture(has discincronized andio \video), make tv pause(make pause but no cached) and return ,and see all video formats.(needs real codecs to see video rmvb)
for more
just like a media center.
I highly recommend using KMPlayer, but I sometimes use K-lite I fell that is clearer than KM..
version 1435 is the latsest stable version. does everything, even crappy FLV's. I'm not a computer wiz, (I got my first p.c. 3 years ago, but I'm a quick study) but I just love the tons of options and keyboard shortcuts. If anyone doesnt, just uncheck "advanced menu" under options. too bad though that the last updates create a folder in documents too, concearning stealth. Grtz
i've found a post in KMPlayer's forums, stating that version 1433 creates a reg key and a folder in docs&settings.
does it happen with the new version as well, or is it fixed?
Just want to say that KMplayer is THE best player out there. How does it compare to VLC? It doesn't, VLC is garbage compared to this.
I tried all the spyware Media Player (3) stuff and VLC (2)portable versions 2 or 3 years ago. I than stumbled on this and posted it on what is now Gizmo's site and was ignored. It was allowing me to playback MP4 and FLV files years ago! The catch is, I could SCROLL and click on my last viewed spot. It would not crash hardly ever and was playing DVD's as well. Nice program. How is a nation full of drop out supposed to develop something like this when all they have on is their "freak" ???
Good stuff and thank you.
The download link is to an old portable version. Go to the real download page http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14938, then use the usual instructions to extract the files using Universal Extractor or similar, copy to a directory where you want it to be, delete the directories $PLUGINSDIR and WizardLanguage.
You probably need to use the instructions above to create a KMPcfg.ini, I run most things through JauntPE to guarantee portability and no registry entries so I didn't bother with the KMPcfg.ini
I read somewhere that kmplayer plays ratdvd files. Is this true? Do you need some extra codecs or plugins to do it?
@ Peter Thoemmes in the preferences go to general then on general tab tick "Store settings to KMPCfg.ini". Then it won't store anything on the main computers.
It recreates the folder 'The KMPlayer' in my documents if you delete it. registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\KMPlayer
unless there's setting to disable this, a portable launcher would have to be made for it to be even close to stealth.
Unfortunately the latest version writes registry keys, and files in my documents. I do have associations set but I rarely watch videos any more so this is a bit unnecessary.
After all players I tested (and a few I bought for more then 80 Euro, each), this is the best player I've ever seen. It is the only player that plays without any problems on my WinNT media computer with one wide-screen and one HDTV TV on the same gfx adapter. Very very good job! Many thanks to the developer --- great job!!!
2.9.3.1428 is last portable version of KMplayer :(
New releases are not portable in Vista
#NoTrayIcon
#include
Dim $kmpreturn
Dim $szDrive, $szDir, $szFName, $szExt
Dim $playlistpath, $search, $file, $find, $replace, $retval
$kmpreturn = RunWait("KMPlayer.exe")
_PathSplit ( @WorkingDir, $szDrive, $szDir, $szFName, $szExt )
$playlistpath = @WorkingDir & "\PlayList"
$search = FileFindFirstFile($playlistpath & "*.kpl")
If $search = -1 Then

EndIf
$find = "=" & $szDrive & ""
$replace = "="
While 1
$file = FileFindNextFile($search)
If @error Then ExitLoop
$retval = _ReplaceStringInFile($playlistpath & $file, $find, $replace)
WEnd
FileClose($search)
Exit
the only problem I had was that play lists had the drive letter in them so when I used the drive on different machines my portable music collection was fine but no playlists... I fixed this with an AutoIT3 app that runs KMPlayer and when it exits converts any playlist that points to the portable drive to use a relative path: script to follow
I just started using Media Player Classic Home Cinema. Been using Media Player Classic.
Among the media players I think this the best.I Tested smplayer and VLC but finally decided to use kmplayer.Thank you for the developer.
After Pandora.tv bought KMPlayer and updated it, it seems KMPlayer instead of being satisfied with a "Capture" folder in the Application Directory, it will also create a "Capture" and "AlbumArt" directories in a main directory "The KMPlayer" in %My Documents%. Now it creates a bunch of entries in HKCR and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes. Can anyone confirm or is it just me?
Peculiar thing about KM PLayer is that it plays AMV.(Advanced media format) supported by only Chipods.I was always wanting such a player that could play them to check out my chipod vids.Any way plaease can any one tell me about a better skin for KM player
for rene
gmplayer with all codecs in the codec sector play
rm and rmvb. visit the codec page
I'm looking for a portable video player that can read the extensios .rmvb.
Does somebody know any player???
My brother sent me a 3GP video recorded in his cellphone, which I was unable to play in any media player without a extensive codec installing.
I tested with KMPlayer. Worked perfect!
The best portable video player.
I used this player for a while until I noticed that even after you set it to store it's settings in the .ini file it still registers it's file extensions in the Registry. In total it still writes about 60 registry entries. (writes about 80 without the .ini setting) The .ini setting only allows you to take your setting with you, It doesn't stop it from writing stuff into the host computer.
this software is good for everyone who wants to wacth the video or anything without any converter.thanks kmplayer.
If I would call some product "Extraordinary" it will this only.
This is the top of my three products.Other two are - XMplay and Media Player Classic + Foobar.
Thanks and hats off to the programmers.
Thanks a lot !!!!
If you've read these comments, it was misleading to call this player open source. It is such a beautiful player (its default skin anyway) and has some features i wish Winamp had. But, weighing it against Winamp... I'd stick with Winamp (one big complaint[of many]- navigating through the damn menus in kmplayer). As for being portable- when changing the options to write to an ini file (to make it portable) they say its a "bit slow"; this is so true for the common computer. Again, Winamp (5.1) seemed to perform better as a portable. Whats good about both is the ability to keep track of the music in the library when changing drive letters (kmplayer uses a winamp library, so no wonder it can too). Next time i switch, i hope it'll be a good open source program with a nice library...
Would be nice if someone create a really portable package that dont write on registry.
I runned the program before read this post and shit was added to the registry :(
Anyone know exactly what registry entries I have to delete
I saw your comment about reg changes Rick. I also saw where A had said to make a .ini file before running. Rick is correct
but here's what I did. I just went to regedit and deleted the reg changes kmplayer had made. I ran kmplayer again and no reg entries were made. Also I have also run kmplayer on my computer at work and no reg entries were detected.
"did i say studder, i me...an it.. start..ed. skip..pin...g w....ords.. in.. the so......ng.. "
mpc does the studdering.. anyways i hate bugs, (in software, the others are cool)
this thing is nice, but really buggy, i played a song which was in real format, and then started browsing with fx, and all of a sudden it started stu- uh uh uh uh uh er er er er er er, even after i minimized firefox, and close any open windows, the memory usage was low, and cpu was low.. so thats rather odd for it to studder like that, cause i know there nuttin wrong wif da song, mpc plays the song fine, it does the same thing when too much cpu is used but not continuesly like kmp.. also it closes itself.. i hope the author reads and fixes these bugs
From The KMPlayer's Forums:
"There was another quick bugfix for being unable to load subtitles in some situations. The loading delay with async source filter is fixed. The problem is almost gone that the attributes of ass/ssa are disappearing when searching. The wrong display of streams' order is fixed in the menu of stream switcher when playing wmv files contained multiple audio streams with KMP internal ASF Splitter enabled.
Sorry for inconveniences."
v2.9.3.1213 starts from my USB-drive very very slow (v2.9.3.1210/1212 didn't have such problems), but starting from HD is as fast as usual. Removing KMPs folder from the drive and installing from fresh didn't fix it.
hey about the portability, before running it, create the KMPCfg.ini and add this [\Software\KMPlayer\KMP2.0\OptionArea]
ConfigUseIni=int:1 to the file, it will not write settings to registry now, dont worry after you shut down kmplay, it will write the rest of it's settings in the ini.
wow! this would diffenetly be the "end all" video/audio player, it supports tons of files (midi included :) ), has a nice interface, loads quick, and has tons of features, just to bad it isn't opensource, it's kind of big and it sometimes crashes with an access violation, i will diffently set this as my default media player. also the latest version is 2.9.3.1213, on more thing here's a features list: http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63 does anyone know of an almost "end all" media converter?
Regardless of which program works better, this one is NOT portable. It creates a massive number of registry entries as soon as it starts, -before- you can set it to use an ini file, and these entries are not deleted when the preference is changed. A few entries are made in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT even if the ini file is present when the program is started.
That said, it seems like a decent enough program, but I haven't tested it with my ATI TV card yet. If it doesn't work with that, then I'll stick with K-Lite and Media Player Classic.
It really rocks. I uninstalled K-Lite. I set it to play almost everything I have right now. Two small things. It starts slower than RealPlayer and tons of options confuse me.
Tried VLC for a while as several people mentioned here. VLC is good, but cannot play Real.
@Nextel: One can compress it by itself using UPX [http://upx.sourceforge.net/]. So what's the problem?
They can compress the EXE, DLL and AX files to 12MB instead of 32MB and then it will be portable.
It can play almost every multimedia files you throw into. and without any codecs.
Just a note that isn't mentioned in the release notes for v2.9.3.1200. One of the features was removed - the ability to scroll to the next/previous video file in a folder. This feature in KMPlayer doesn't work as well as the equivalent feature in Zoom Player, but I am still sad to see it gone (KMPlayer's author stated that it was removed due to requests from some users).
VLC beats this KMP in three things: better WMV9 support, unique FLV support, and faster loading time. However, KMP beats VLC in anything else: skins, options, subtitles (it can read the .sub file inside rar archives, which usually cut the size in half), Winamp media library and plugins support (even shoucast radio and TV - watch out for adult channels). I will stick with KMP and rulesPlayer (cause it's fast). Great one.
For being able to speed up playback of podcasts alone, this is my new favorite media player.
Absolutely impressive! Compressed all the dll files and the exe, decreasing its folder size from 38M to 16M.
Thanks for the response PT...Didnt explain myself properly:
Sections from albums downloaded from E-Music show up as .m3u
and WinAmp;XM play; will immediately play these....KM waits
until you click on the downloaded file, then plays it but
the timer continues to run past the usual 30 secs and the
player freezes, requiring task manager to shut it down....
OH! and your correct about the portable version not playing
DVD.
Aren't .m3u's just playlists for albums or a set of songs? As in, you click the .m3u file for a certain album and it plays all the songs in order? Are you sure you have the songs that the .m3u file is supposed to play?
Agree with many comments made so far but have tried 2 versions
of KM and both appear to have real problems with .m3u downloads
from E-Music ; or maybe as has been mentioned, with all the
possible settings I just haven't got it right yet....any
suggestions appreciated.
Sorry, forgot to mention that Portable VLC Player works great for DVD's (and files) so I've switched to that.
Just be aware that using KM Player (KMP) in this manner will not allow you to play DVD's. KMP "Portable" will freeze during the DVD menus. I have duplicated this on no less than three computers using various DVD's. However, any regular file playing works great ie XviD's, wmv's, MPEG's etc you have downloaded or ripped yourself.
Link leads to File Forum but then FileForum link leads back to the program webiste and you still have to register to download, unless I missed something.
Another way is to sign up for their forums at the website and download from there.
Link not working. Tried googling for another link but had no success. Any help please, would love to try this program out.
Good app, able to read more media than VLC and quicker to load, also able to handle external codec when they are present (rv10 for exemple) where vlc can't. Not able to display properly french caracters in subtitles.
Whoah, this thing rules.
Tons of cool options. Screenshot option. A->B repeat option!
Even TV card support (WDM). Haven't gotten that to work, yet, though.
I've just found my new player.
I forgot totally about comparison for ahoier. VLC has downright ugly subtitles and a poor interface that can't even display truly on top of everything unless the video is in a separate window, and for the last version I used Matroska caused crashes and OGM support was terrible. Taking screenshots was also disappointingly inaccurate. KMPlayer surpasses it on every count. MPlayer (with rulesPlayer) is what I actually prefer on most occaisions, though it doesn't have native screenshot support or the ability to directly rip audio and video, though the subtitles are quite pleasing (rulesPlayer). rulesPlayer is slightly faster than KMPlayer and much faster than VLC (ugly, slow GTK). However, for an overall video solution, KMPlayer is the king. At least until rulesPlayer starts whipping up some surprises.
I haven't found a player that's as robust and wonderful as this one. Capture screenshots, audio and video. Runs fast and light. Detects sequential files automatically and plays them in order. Flexible skinning system that allows the user to choose colors. Attractive and customizable subtitles. Ability to use directshow codecs in case you prefer them. Remembers positions for media files. I use this for video and xmplay for audio. And as far as "too many options to configure" goes, it's a whole hell of a lot better than an inflexible player that won't let you have what you want. The seeking isn't as fast as mplayer, but that's really my only gripe.
very open source program.i mean too many options to configure,it took me hours to get it the way i want.i think media player classic is faster and it opens everything if you have the required codecs. The only thing i liked is it sort of contains winamp(u have winamp media library)It's still more friendly than vlc but it's slower than mpc.i'd have to say i've never seen this much option in a media player.Audio effects(3d,crossfade...)are cool, video filters are huge, you might get lost in options menu while trying to find a simple thing such as "always on top" option. You might wanna save your settings -registry- after you've finished fighting with the preferences. And some winamp plug-ins are not compatible.I think i'll stick with winamp+mpc.

This is KMPlayer now? Feels like a reskin of MPC.
