This software is NOT freeware, better check licenses more carefully in future.

"1. The Software is being licensed to you free of charge for your private personal use only. The Software is licensed, not sold. You may use the Software for non-commercial purposes only." (

[BOT]Fluffy 2006-04-27 08:54

I really can't say that I'd support this client regardless of license. Bitcomet is pretty infamous for being a "leecher" client, which disgusts me. Please folks, use uTorrent instead and SHARE your files!

Mr. Mister 2006-04-27 13:20

[BOT]Fluffy: Upgrade your knowledge and stop speaking with your ass! (=don't live in the past, things change you know)

People, don't believe this FUD!

BitComet is nice, ĀµTorrent is nice, whatever, select the software YOU like and choose to ignore all bullshit. For [BOT]Fluffy: it's strange that the BitComet is so very much functional today with "all" trackers... unlike in the past where your kind of accusations were true and many trackers blocked specific BitComet versions. Not anymore. My 2c again.

Blksprk 2006-04-29 07:34

Reality is that BitComet is still blocked by many trackers, I know that several of the ones that I use have ALL BitComet clients blocked regardless of version since it dosnt like to play nicely with DHT restrictions. It may have changed on other sites, but many of the trusted high power sites see otherwise. You are better off with uTorrent

[BOT]Fluffy 2006-05-17 08:29

Mr. Mister: The reality is as Blksprk stated. I also notice that you've done nothing to deny the accusations of BitComet being a leech client, you simply claim that trackers allow BiCcomet these days, which I never mentioned as being a problem.

You might also consider the fact that this site is primarily aimed for software that can be run directly from a portable device, and portable devices do not have all the space in the world. Clearly,

Rozire 2006-06-25 15:07

uTorrent works better for me.

Cosmin 2006-09-02 01:36

I meant to say "than I do with utorrent". You get the gist.

Enlou 2006-09-02 08:26

For the record, [BOT]Fluffy... some of us, like me, use a larger USB Drive. Andrew caters to all, not some. I use a 120 GB Samsung 2.5" laptop HDD in a small external enclosure from MassCool. It uses 5v of USB power that's provided to it by the single cable and runs fantastically... AND has 120 GB of storage.

muri_guri 2006-09-03 19:11

bitcomet always downloaded like twice the size of any torrent for me(too much garbage data)which azureus did not.I used utorrent, bitcomet, azureus, abc, burst ..list goes on and over the years nothing came close to azureus.I wish some program came just as good as azureus but didn't require java(coz it sucks)

Peter Olson 2006-10-13 14:59

I'd reccomend uTorrent over this one, uTorrent works great for me.

No competition for uTorrent 2006-10-31 02:32

That's it, it's simply not competition to uTorrent. size, features, resource usage etc.. etc... and uTorrent wins on all of those

IamNOTWithStupid 2006-11-20 19:28

i dislike p2p, man what a huge pain in the ass for the machine that has high level security settings, and having to set it just for use. and high speed? i could barely get 1 kbps even for high profile files. also it should be noted p2p programs generally writes the files with trash data before the download ever finishes, that means if you download lets say a 3 gig file, it will write trash data to 3 gigs even though their no actual data from the file you downloading from

ugh, and the legality is the only thing i like about it, it pisses off/frustrates authorities figures (riaa, mpaa, rich music execs)..

which is something that puts a smile on my face.

Erind 2006-12-15 12:56

@IamNOTWithStupid, please don't make us kill you. You are complaining about your own lack of knowledge. If you turn the option on, it will set aside the entire size of the file at the start so it doesn't fill your HD up 3/4 of the way through. Also, you most likely (99% chance) don't have port forwarding set up for it.

Stefano 2006-12-30 04:06

This is not a portable app!
Bitcomet registers extensions, preferences and something else in the registry! A portable app should not to this!
I've not found a way to prevent this behaviour.

Mapido 2007-01-21 07:58

I suggest you all use uTorrent, no nonses, very small, much functions, easy-to-use and a big power.
Small is beautiful ;)

ezLizard 2007-02-08 12:11

On my box, at least, uTorrent is nowhere near as fast downloading as BitComet; no need to mess with port forwarding either. On the other hand, my other internet apps (e.g., Firefox), slow down to a crawl.

Falcon4 2007-03-24 23:31

Bitcomet. The epitome of lying, cheating clients. Steals from other peers, lies to super seeds, hammers trackers. Bitcomet, the client of choice for the leeching, godless dipshit sack of crap leecher.

uTorrent owns, and is actually a PORTABLE app - just create the "settings.dat" and "resume.dat" files in the same folder as utorrent.exe, and voila, fully portable uTorrent. What was with that rant above about "my 120gb hard drive"? Dude, I had a 100gb torrent drive and it had uTorrent on it. If a BETTER PROGRAM can be written in SMALLER SPACE, what is there to argue?

Black Rose 2008-09-04 14:37

bit comet is the only torrent downloader that works on my anime sites so i like it.

fuckhead 2008-10-31 16:07

bitcomet was good in the beginning but now i have noticed lots of crap data. more than ever. too much advertising, useless features. gonna buy a nas drive with torrent software. fuck bitcommet

joshkrz 2009-05-06 10:29

bitcomet isnt a leecher program, it always uploads at full speed, i agree with "fuckhead" because bitcomet 0.70 was a good build. I tryed uTorrent and the speed was crap, and where were the settings, there was hardly and customizeasion over it, appart from themes but to be honest, whats that gonna do with your downloads? Bitcomet is the feature and functionality winner over this, straight up, utorrents too simple and is the quick choice, a bit like apple ipod is with creative zen, zen is so much better.

like a guy above said tho, its your choice.

Nostalgic 2010-04-04 23:44

Over the years I have tried Bitcomet, uTorrent, Azureus (now called Vuze), BitSpirit, KTorrent, Frostwire, Transmission and Seedbox.

I never noticed a difference in my share ratio between Bitcomet and other apps.
In fact, they help to incourage seeding with an intelligent ranking system.
More you seed, the faster you download. If you are just a leecher, then you will download at minimum speeds.

Personally, I prefer Bitcomet over the other clients, as in my experience it has always downloaded many times faster than the other clients I have worked with.

Its true, in the past Bitcomet was not so nice, but that was many many versions ago and they now comply with all the regs.

Larry 2010-11-14 04:02

If you have AT&T Uverse want BitComet...for whatever reason I couldn't get uTorrent to to work and spent days trying...I tried Vuze and a few others...BitComet just works out of the box.

Peer 2010-11-21 21:44

BitComet is superior to uTorrent in a lot of ways.
uTorrent is tiny&low resources because it's only good for one thing, traffic via the BitTorrent protocol, and that's all it can do.
BitComet however, is a fully featured HTTP/FTP/BitTorrent/LTSeeding/eMule download manager, a multi&cross-protocol platform able to find and download the file you want, even if it's in a dead torrent, in a torrent shared by others, on a ftp server or on a web site. Considering all the above it's amazing that BitComet is so small and low on resources. Imagine how much space and memory stand-alone apps for each of those protocols will take up if they're run at the same time.

omg the screenshot is about 10 years old, lol

aw_indonesia 2011-05-01 11:11

i use easy torrent, no install ,no write trash data.....easy to use

spchtr 2011-07-19 14:07

IP Filtering has been removed from this program, shouldn't it be removed from the description of this program in the database?

AmCiAn 2013-05-06 09:47

Agreeing totally with the article from that link.

I Use BitComet v1.35 (since a few days v1.36) seeding mostly to at Share Ratio 25-30 and downloading at speed 1,000-1,500 kB/s.

I'm very satisfied of this little gem. ;)

carbonize 2013-05-06 12:44

I personally hate programs that try to do everything as they invariably fail to be good at any of it. BitComet is basically trying to become Shareaza. Do people even use the eDonkey network any more?

Midas 2013-11-21 22:35

Carbonize comment above seems to imply that eMule functionality is built-in BitComet, when in fact it resides in a separated plugin... IMHO, BitComet provides for a comprehensive and rather good downloading solution (encompassing regular, media and torrent downloads).

CornHolio the Gringo 2015-03-31 20:43

I used BitComet as the first torrent client back in the ol days.
Then uTorrent arrived, and I stuck with it for the low resource usage.

smaragdus 2018-05-16 23:23

The download links for BitComet version 1.50 - "404 Not Found" (both for the archive and the installer).

Midas 2018-05-17 14:09

Confirmed just now: shows links for both packages but all you get is an error for v1.50. Alternative download locations pointed to by the homepage don't work either.
