Stickies v9.0d

billon on 4 Jan 2017

Stickies work like customizable post-it notes with available styles, fonts, colors, and buttons. Notes can be resized or snapped to the edges of other notes to keep them lined up. They can also act as reminders when hidden for a period, until a specified date and time, even upon waking every day, week, or month.

Alternatively, Stickies Portable is available.

One of my two or three favorite programs of all time. Love this app so much I donated to the author. I searched far and wide for a stickies app that had all the features I wanted and the 5.2b version had all but one. Then he put out v6 and it has that plus more.

Just started using this for fun and was blown away with it's usefulness, all the options, ease of use, etc. Simply awesome!

Great program! One note though, in order to run it as portable (and not create a stickies folder in your Documents and Settings\Application Data folder) you need to set the working directory to the install directory directory when you run it. You can see what I mean here: http://tomrevell.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=gensupport&action=display&num=1172276229

One of the best freeware that i have found on the web. Thanks to Tom Revell and http://portablefreeware.com/

Keep sticking Tom :)

I've tried just about every other sticky notes program I have seen, and there is nothing that comes close to Stickies for features and ease of use.

Patman 2008-04-10 21:43

Search no further, this is THE best sticky note program you will find. Been using it as portable for over a year, never lost a note, never had a single problem. And if you accidentally delete an important note...or say your child...or wife does, no problem, it saves like 500 notes. Love it.

Stickies will associate itself with .sti & .ssk files unless you tell it not to. To do this, uncheck the box on the General tab in the Options dialog box

Only program CLOSE to this is the commercial NoteZilla. Really can't beat this program.

IanFromBarrie 2009-10-19 17:24

New graphics stickies make this even more useful.

Grump 2009-10-20 22:57

Worked fine on Xp laptop, but failed on both 98SE
machines tested on with error message "Unable to
initialize DAO/Jet db engine". Main fix I found end
user could do(see http://tinyurl.com/yh6xjcy)uses
registry change and is aimed at Xp. Based on this, it
fails both portability and 98SE functionality for me.

great program, fully skinnable, much better and flexible than PNotes

Walter 2009-11-03 08:57

I agree that's a great program.
BUT, the fact that there isn't a zip version to download makes it cumbersome to upgrade.
For example, I installed 7.00 a few days ago, now I have to install 7.00a and its all over again install/uninstall/et c.

(For that reason alone, I'd use PNotes, but I can't figure out how to display all notes with a single click!)

Walter 2009-11-03 13:22

I correct myself. You CAN easily upgrade from a previous version. I've just upgraded to 7.0a like this:

stickies_setup_7.0a.exe -extract

This will extract the files into the current folder. Just overwrite the old ones, and the version will be updated.

Btw, the correct way to make this application portable (if not upgrading) is described here:

http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/support/kb.pl?q=00002

I'd prefer a simple zip file instead of all these steps, but now that I can upgrade, I'm more than happy.

Sweet program, but it is NOT portable. It stores its info in the Applications Data folder, it stores PreFetch settings, and all kind of stuff. All on C drive. It's dependent on those things, and there seems to be no way to break the dependencies.

ChemZ 2010-11-15 17:37

Best sticky notes so far!

robzuc 2011-10-13 07:50

I agree with PR1ME, it's not portable. After the update, I lost my notes (and recovering them was a pain). I'll look for something else.

robzuc 2011-10-14 07:47

Following my previous post: the 2nd issue is a consequence of the 1st one; anyway I'll test the PortableApps version of Stickies.

Regarding pre-fetch this is entirely a Windows OS problem though some at Micro$oft call PreFetch a FEATURE.

Have you created an empty file called stickies.ini????

Instructions regarding this would be found in the TPFC entry.

Have you ever tried the built-in backup feature of Stickies??????????

This program is the best for it's purpose. Networking is also cool. Portable!

A have other problem lately. On each start it creates two new stickies. I delete keyboard hook dll but new stickies are not triggered by the keyboard. Any idea?

Stickies 9.0a is released. It has a new modern UI.
Lots of other changes: http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/versions.html
Stickies runs on XP SP1, Vista, 7, 8 and 10. Earlier versions of Windows are no longer supported.
For those OS, try an older version of Stickies: http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/support/kb.pl?q=00013

v8.0c

Two alternative extraction methods:

First:
Open installer in 7-Zip (File > 7-Zip > Open archive > #);
You'll see two ZIPs inside;
In 2.zip - stickies.exe, in 4.zip - stickies.chm.

Second (if you have WinRAR):
Open installer in 7-Zip;
Inside you'll see stickies.exe;
Open installer in WinRAR;
Inside you'll see stickies.chm.

v9.0a

billon 2016-08-29 16:51

Correction to first method:
there is now also 6.zip, inside - stickies8.ssk (Stickies Skin?), copy it in created next to stickies.exe and stickies.chm folder "skins"

v9.0c
