Even though this utility is called 'portable,' it still writes an empty folder to the User/AppData/Roaming folder - an undesirable characteristic for one working on a client's PC. When it runs 100$ from the Program Files folder, only then will I consider it 'portable.'

@shodan816 - This is noted in the app's description under "Stealth".

@loner - I actually don't think the screenshot you linked to appropriately describes the software. It's not primarily an image editor, it's a screen capture app. I'll let webfork decide, since he added the app.

freakazoid: totally agree

Loner's suggestion is now a non-issue: the link he proposed is dead today.

Program is now at version 1.15, but download link automatically gets version 1.06. Until the listing is updated, you have to go to the web site and manually download the latest version.

@ Jimmy Neutron: Thanks ... and updated.

I don't really use the included image editor for anything but basic changes, but it's simplicity and ease of use is hard to beat. Use this at least twice a day. Great program.

I regularly take screen snapshots for two different SW packages, and I like to keep the snaps separate. I couldn't find where the preferences were stored, so I just made a copy of my SW folder, and tried to set the preferences for each copy to be different. I figured if it was truly portable, each copy would remember it's own data. To my shock, the preferences are stored somewhere shared. This implies that if I took Greenshot on a USB stick to a computer that already had it, then changed file pattern or location information, one or the other copy would know what the other copy had. A quick test showed this to be true: Changing preferences for a copy running from a USB, cause the local system to see those changes.

I look forward to a true portable version.

Recent additions including the auto-crop and various great highlighting/obfuscating tools built into the editor are fantastic. Really nice to see this great program continue to improve.

PF Contrib: just tested and it works fine. are you sure you used the NO INSTALLER version?

Greenshot released.

smaragdus 2014-12-29 23:12

I am not sure whether is a stable final version, Softpedia labels it as unstable.

romulous 2014-12-30 02:24

The Greenshot website itself links to when you click the download link, so I think we can consider it a stable.

How to get links to the image when uploading it to Imgur? When i click Upload to Imgur button it uploads the image but after this it doesn't show window with links to the uploaded image that i can copy and paste in forums.

webfork 2016-05-05 19:11

Peter202: after you click the Imgur button, you should see a bubble in the taskbar saying it's uploading, and then you should be able to paste the Imgur URL. Note that you may need to update to the latest version if you haven't.

Peter202 2016-05-06 08:15

@webfork Yes, but it gives only one url of the image to copy. I have used another Imgur uploader, which stopped working, but it gave different type of url's to use, like: for forums, for html sites, with small and large thumbnails.

webfork 2016-05-06 20:18

@Peter202: Greenshot goes really lightweight and minimalist by design so that's not present but you might goto the home page and click 'suggest a feature'

I just started using Greenshot. With Win 7 x64.

I just cannot set Settings->General->Update_check_interval to 0. Any other value works.

Nice program otherwise.
