DNS Benchmark can help speed up internet service through the analysis of multiple Domain Name System servers. The graphical analysis can help you avoid slow and overloaded servers. Users who may have an especially bad DNS problem will see a noticeably slow reaction after typing in a www.whatever.com address and the website appearing.

Since Google's DNS and the OpenDNS services may or may not be a good option, this tool can help you determine that clearly.

Functional in WINE.

Note that this program does not have the ability to modify your DNS. Users must modify system settings or use a tool like QuickSetDNS.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10 / Wine
Writes settings to: None
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download DNSBench.exe to a folder of your choice and launch.

Dunno, some oddity with my old WinXP machine config ?

For "statistical confidence"'sake, would another fellow member also
kindly try and run Steve Gibson's fine DNS Benchmark tool under XP ?

Thanks.

Much useful tool, works fine under Win7.
Sadly, bombs under WinXP; perhaps the "OS Requirements" field needs updating?

This application is not getting the credit deserved, so i will give brief synopsis of it's importance:
- OpenDNS, GoogleDNS, and other public DNS services fail to mention, their DNS service may NOT be optimal for your Internet speed. (It is, but it's in small letters, and one must do a deep search.)

This is where DNS Benchmark comes into play:
- In order to find out which DNS service is optimal for your ISP, you must know the speeds.
- Simply do a 1-time benchmark: and it will give you a list of the top 25 optimal DNS servers for your setup/ISP.

For instance: (http://i40.tinypic.com/rgwg86.png)
- In my situation, my ISP's default DNS servers are actually the fastest.
- So switching to OpenDNS, GoogleDNS, or any other would impede my Internet speed.

Note: OpenDNS does have it's benefits, however, im behind a router use Internet Security, and block DNS entries w/HostsMan. For me, speed is much more important.

This is a very unique benchmarking tool. I've never seen anything like it. But and however, it's not for the average user. You have to be willing and able to change your primary and/or secondary DNS server addresses in order to see any performance improvements. How much performance improvement will you get?: For most people, very little but every little bit helps. Them be my thoughts...
