I contacted the developer and he explained that dxirc can be made to save settings inside program folder:
dxirc from version 0.10.3 has startup option -l [FILE] for location
config file.
So you can write in desktop shotcut for example:
D:\dejf\dxirc\dxirc-qt.exe -l D:\dejf\dxirc\dxirc-qt.ini
A short example how to run dxirc in portable mode:
- I extracted the archive to C:\Portable Programs\dxirc
- I created an empty dxirc-qt.ini file inside dxirc folder
- I create a desktop shortcut for dxirc-qt.exe and opened icon's Properties- Shortcut and changed Target from "C:\Portable Programs\dxirc\dxirc-qt.exe" to "C:\Portable Programs\dxirc\dxirc-qt.exe" -l "C:\Portable Programs\dxirc\dxirc-qt.ini"
Started this way dxirc stores its settings inside program folder but also creates an empty folder in AppData- C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\dxirc so dxirc is portable but not stealth.

The developer also told me that he might release a portable version for Windows which would use program folder for settings directly.

dxirc screen-shots:

I suppose that this thread might be moved to Portable Freeware Submission since dxirc is portable (but not stealth).

As promised the developer of dxirc has released native portable versions- go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxirc/files/1.20.0/ and download either dxirc-1.20.0-fox-portable.zip (Fox build) or dxirc-1.20.0-qt-portable.zip (Qt Build), extract the archive and simply run dxircfoxPortable.exe or dxircqtPortable.exe, all data is saved inside program folder without any need to tweak the start-up options.

Moderator, please move this thread to Portable Freeware Submission sub-forum.

  • A significant upfront difference between the two portable dxirc packages offered: the "Fox build" is 8MB, the "Qt build" is almost 26MB...

Also, the portables follow PortableApps.com format arrangement.

That's because of the tool-kits used:
- Fox toolkit - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_toolkit
- Qt - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qt_%28software%29

All set. I also pulled the version number out of the thread title.

New release out 1.30.0 with what looks like fairly minor changes. Maybe there's more under the hood?
