I got to test this today on some old hardware and it worked well. Has settings for flatbed, document feeder, color, black and white. Very simple interface. I do wish it would save settings between sessions, but glad I had this on my machine when I needed something scanned.

I also posted this in the comments section of the entry, it is concering security aspects mentioned above (link seems dead):
It seems possible to make the program automatically delete temporary image files from scans, moreover it seems possible to change the default location of those files from AppData to any other folder, e.g. the program folder.
