firefox as "desktop" replacement

#1 Post by -.- »

hm I started doing this about a few days ago and found it pretty nice so I'm sharing it.
Using MIME Edit addon or manually editting mimetype.rdf in firefox to run exe files with explorer.exe

now bookmark your folders/programs in firefox and give them keywords/tags

my setup is tagging word/excel/powerpoint as office so i see them when i search office. I can launch them by keyword as well. :D
you can even give the files:/// and about:blank backgrrounds by editting usercontent.css in chrome folder lol

A note is that while explorer is set to run exe files, its still only going to give you the file prompt IE has for run/save/cancel so you'll still be "safe" if some exe tries to run since you'll be prompted.

Anyhow since I'm on the web 80-90% of the time when im on the computer this just makes things easier for me :D
