OE Viewer 3.0 (Outlook Express Recovery)

#4 Post by AlephX »

Hi!

This is a simple program to recover mails and attachments from the Outlook Express files.

Synopsis
Viewer for standalone files containing Microsoft Outlook Express 4,5 and 6 message database (*.idx/*.mbx/*.dbx) and standalone EML files. It displays list of contained messages and their header. Message can be viewed in detailed view including attachments (save ability) and HTML preview and printing. Messages can be saved to *.eml files.
Write Settings to: I guess none, because this is a standalone file... I could not test that. I think that anyway (in the case it touched the registry) a similar application can be useful...

I forgot to write that few months ago the user 4Sidney posted a message about MiTec... he did not mention OE Viewer, but many other applications. I think that 4Sidney was right to say that the site is worth a visit :D

I just discovered this site, and had to try them all.

link: http://www.mitec.cz/Data/XML/data_downloads.xml

I think the majority of them are portable, some are packaged in installers so I assume those are the ones that aren't portable :D

[edit]
Ok they're not stealth, I've tracked a couple and they write their settings to

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\user\current\Software\MiTeC
Despite this these are some very useful tools to be found from this author.

oe viewer -> MiTeC Mail Viewer

#7 Post by webfork »

http://www.mitec.cz/mailview.html

An alert user NickR pointed out that there's a new version with a new name. I can't find a mirror for the 3.0 version.

If someone wants to retest this for portability, I'd be happy to update the entry.

It writes quite a few window settings to the registry HKCU\software\MiTeC\OEViewer\3.x.

This is a great software!

I can open my Thunderbird database files to quickly go through my thousands of messages without opening Thunderbird (I just put a shortcut to MailView.exe in my SendTo folder)!

One could run a .reg file like this to remove its registry traces:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MiTeC\MailViewer]
Ore use the elegant solution provided by JauntePE.

#14 Post by I am Baas »

MiTeC System Information X provides complex system information about your system. It has capability to save brief text of full XML report and store data in structured storage file (readable by using standard Windows API), that can be lately viewed as well.
