Where did you get that they're refusing to fix them?
Direct quote from the security advisories I linked:
07/20/17 - The vendor indicated this will not be fixed because this can be mitigated by Secure Mode
And for the record, Secure Mode is enabled by default, which means that Foxit users are safe unless they disable it.

The main reason is that PDF simply contains way too many features. Both exploits here utilize JavaScript, which is very rarely needed, but a goldmine for exploits. Also, here's a beautiful quote from the hacking journal PoC||GTFO, issue 0x12, page 24:

Sorry, should have looked more closely.

While I wasn't looking, the Foxit program became a really solid PDF program (save for the colorful adverts at the top of the program window):
  • Night mode, which is in some ways better than a simple color inversion as it's easier on the eyes. Unfortunately it doesn't work on PDF files that are simple pictures.
  • Text Viewer - I often try to do basic conversions without fancy software, and the viewer function saves time.
  • The search panel - it's still a bit short of PDF XChange, but does uniquely include a smart search for elements in a PDF such as dates, SSN, phone numbers, and email addresses.
  • Measurement tools I thought you could only get in the obscenely huge Bluebeam PDF
  • Much improved search tools, including the ability to export a list of results to CSV. This is very helpful when researching large PDF files to track and analyze docs.
  • Asian character detection - the program has a Word Count that includes this. That may sound pointless but sometimes when you work with international companies, weird characters will once in a while show up in your docs. I've had trouble finding a program that will do this.
  • Magnification tools are dramatically better than before with a magnifying glass view as well as a simple box magnifier that I was so thrilled to find in the PDF XChange program
  • Batch print - any batch operations are usually missing from most freeware programs, so this was nice to see
Note that I still highly prefer Evince's smooth-as-glass autoscroll over this program, but it's a start.

Two other updates about the Foxit program I really like:

Area highlight -- really useful because it can cover both text and image to add a comment. I don't know of another program that can do this:

How to add You preferred language to Foxit Reader Portable of PortableApps

Foxit Reader Portable from PortableApps https://portableapps.com/apps/office/fo ... r_portable come with English default language.

How to add You preferred language ?
1. go to download from Foxit Software Download page https://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/ select Foxit Reader download
2. accept proposed choices (Windows and English)
3. now You download the installer with official multilingual version: file FoxitReader101_L10N_Setup_Prom.exe and put them in a 'temp' folder
4. download from Softpedia the program InnoEx (portable) https://www.softpedia.com/get/Programmi ... noEx.shtml and
5. unzip the downloaded file InnoEx_v0.9.2.rar in a folder as Your choice and launch InnoEx.exe
6. select the file 'FoxitReader101_L10N_Setup_Prom.exe' in '\temp' and click on Path to sort folders in alphabetical order
7. go down and find the folder, for example, {app}\lang\de-DE\ and select all files of this language (31 files)
8. press Extract, select new folder (ex. \temp\Foxit Reader), select Selected files. then proceed.
9. replace in Foxit Reader Portable the folder 'C:\PortableApps\FoxitReaderPortable\App\Foxit Reader\lang\de-DE'
10. launch Foxit Reader Portable and open -> Preferences -> Languages -> see box 'Official language' and tick (lang_de-DE.xml) and confirm: Foxit Reader restart with You desired language.

Note_1
You can also see this post on PortableApps Forum https://portableapps.com/node/63160

Note_2
This trick works because the actual installer of Foxit Reader (rel. 10.1.0) is built with Inno Setup Compiler.

Note_3
If InnoEx don't work, update the executable InnoUnp.exe (inside InnoEx folder) and grab it from http://innounp.sourceforge.net/.
Last version of InnoUnp.exe is 0.49 of 2019-05-19.

Very interesting. Based on user bitcoin's note ...
bitcoin wrote: Sun Nov 01, 2020 9:11 am now at 221 MB after deleting excess language files
... I would have assumed that the Foxit Reader program has an excess of languages rather than missing some. I have an admittedly old install but I'm seeing 42 folders in my \FoxitReaderPortable\App\Foxit Reader\lang folder. Are there just more languages in the FoxitReader101_L10N_Setup_Prom.exe file?

Thanks for the detailed breakdown.

It is not so !
All folders in 'C:\PortableApps\FoxitReaderPortable\App\Foxit Reader\lang\' contains only a file called 'mts_lang_xx-XX.xml' where 'xx-XX' identify the state (nation).
These files are listed in the box:
-> File -> Preferences -> Languages -> box 'Translated by Community'. But each language folder contains only a file, for example 'mts_lang_de-DE.xml' for German language.

Inside official installer multilanguage each language has about 31 files and weight 1.3 MB.
Here is a list of files for Italian language.
These files are for each part of program (menu and other)

So I'm still a huge fan of PDFXChange for a host of operations but have to acknowledge that Foxit has has some nice extras.

---

There’s a dark mode now (came out back in Oct), which is much appreciated but it doesn’t mean much if the documents are all the opposite.

Image

For that you’ll want to change the accessibility options where you can enforce a dark mode in documents. Doesn’t work with images of course but it’s a positive step.

Image

Alternatively there’s a “Night mode” which I guess is another route to do what I mention above.

Image

You can allow multiple instances in Settings – Documents - important as I sometimes prefer distinct separate windows over tabs.

Image

There’s now an indexing search built into the program. That's fantastic as I really like having instant search across larger docs. Though I’m unclear what “use often” means. Like if I've opened the file more than once, it gets indexed?

Image

Finally, under Settings - General, there’s SEVERAL options I wish I saw more often. Turning off user experience, internet connection options, and “show advertisement”.
