Hey there, new to DropIt with a quick question!

I have DropIt monitoring my downloads folder using the "Immediate on-change" setting
so it can move any incoming media to other folders.

But for some reason, whenever there's an incoming file, the associated process runs twice
giving me a "Process partially failed" message.

The resulting report looks something like this -
image.jpg > Move > D:\Images > Status OK
image.jpg > Move > D:\Images\image 01.jpg > Status Failed

Am I doing something wrong? It seems that DropIt is registering the folder change twice.
And if it really did run twice, why would it fail, if it renamed the file?
(Btw I have "Use automatic choice for duplicates" checked, which is why the second process renames the file)

Thanks!

Awesome software! One request, would it possible to have an upload to Evernote action? I know it's possible to move files into an Evernote watch folder but that doesnt allow for attaching tags (as far as i know). This action would upload to the user's notebook of choice with a choice of Evernote tags. Thanks!

GREAT Application. Thank you so much for this.
I've got some troubles with folders and subfolders sorting.
1) I am categorizing my Downloads folder, so that any file that is downloaded will me moved to a specific folder inside the Downloads folder. I am tring to make rules for that, but monitoring system starts to check not just files in Downloads folder, but all the files in all subfolders (which is NOT the way things are planned=).
So i am trying to include some instruction to my association list that will tell the app to search for files with correct extensions but NOT to look in subfolders.
2) At the same time i have a rule to move all the folders in Downloads folder in the "Folder" folder inside the Downloads folder (but only if the folder name is NOT one of the folder that a created as specific for files of chosen extensions). The rule works, but the subfolder problem maybe in som conflict with it?

P.S. I've tried the trick from http://www.dropitproject.com/dokuwiki/d ... an_folders:
"If you want to ignore subfolders of monitored folders, you can select “Always process folders and not scan them” from Options (“Main” tab) and add the following association as the only one for folders"
but it doesn't seem to help. Every time i drag all folders to DropIt icon (or start a monitoring session with 10 sec interval) - DropIt says that it has to check 10 GB of Data - and that tells me that created rules are not entirelly correct.

Can someone tell what is the problem?

@shlackbaum @bdrifter Check my final paragraph for my solution to this problem. It might not be perfect, but it's all I can think of.

To be clear, this program is really cool and especially so being that I never knew it what it could do was even possible until just today and it's dang near perfect for me. Not only was it exactly what I was looking for, it can do so much more than I expected. However, I'm in the same boat as @shlackbaum @bdrifter, in that I'm attempting to use this as a autosort file manager for a downloads folder (as well as other folders, should all go well) where anything downloaded or ingested into the main folder would be automatically sorted into appropriate subfolders.

My issue is also much the same in that once DropIt has placed an item into a subfolder and scans the downloads folder again, it sees that the file fits it's rule and attempts to process it back into the subfolder it's already in, registering a conflict, and will do so every single scan. If "Immediate on-change" is selected, the act of moving the file itself will trigger a second scan and a second processing and if not skipped, will do so again. If an automatic rename action was selected like "filename_01", it will trigger a conflict with itself over and over renaming itself with increasing "01"s at the end indefinitely. Comical, but not desired.

I have also attempted to block it from scanning/processing the subfolders using the exact instructions in the wiki link above, with ## as the only folder modifier and "*.pdf" or "*.txt" as the file modifier and selecting "Process folders and not scan them" but for me and my setup, this setting doesn't work when used in combination with the "Immediate on-change" option in monitoring (I've added my info to a relevant bug report on SourceForge). I've also tried many other combinations of settings, rules and associations, without much luck.

Really though, I don't much care or mind that it scans and processes subfolders. It would be perfectly fine for DropIt to constantly be checking them for changes (ie. I add something to a subfolder, a file ends up in the wrong one, or I change the sorting rules) and move things accordingly. My only desire is that once a file has been placed in it's proper folder or if otherwise it's already where it needs to be according to the rules, that the program recognize that fact and not attempt to move it to where it already is or otherwise alter it in any way. Is this an option or a rule I'm missing? Searching the guide and the wiki haven't shown that option. I've added a feature request on the SourceForge tracker to this effect, but if it already is a thing, please let me know.

In the meantime, I can either just use the "Time Interval" setting and block scanning subfolders which seems to work just fine if a bit clunky, or I can simply set the monitored folder and the download destination to a separate, "processing" folder used purely for ingesting and tell it to sort into subfolders in the main downloads folder I intend to actually use. It will have an auto sorting effect and I won't have to do anything complicated to do it, but it won't be a self-regulating system so if I move a file accidentally, change the rules, or want to add a new file manually, I'll have to sort it manually or transfer it to the ingest folder. That might be a desired effect anyway for other uses I have in mind. Anyone have any other ideas, or did I screw up the settings?

Hi guys,

I tried to go through whole thread, maybe I am blind and/or stupid.

I started using DropIt and it's really awesome.

But I had a question - is it possible to copy one file (rule is simple *_xxx_* .pdf; it has nothing to do with porn), into two different folders in one step meaning profile or rule?

Thanks!

does anybody know the rule to prevent processing of sub-folders?

I have set to monitor c:\docs
it has pdfs and folders with pdfs

I'm trying to organize the pdfs on the c:\docs\*.pdf but dropit keeps on including all pdfs from sub-folders

I set the ## ignore and it does not work

I want dropit to process only the files not the sub-folders of the folder

Thanks

Hi Folks, is @Lupo still around?

Anyway, a question that hopefully has an answer...

I use a program called Radarr to find Movies, It will also upgrade said movies when a better version is available. This is great - except that when Radarr relocates the old versions on upgrade, it not only relocates the movie file but also all of the associated image files etc and places them in the root of the nominated recycle folder - without creating a sub directory. Normally this is not an issue, BUT when Radarr updates 2 or more movies at the same time the result of the old version relocation is a mess. Image files get renamed as duplicates and its a pain to fix if I need to re use the images for the upgraded movie.

I'm trying to get DropIt to place all files related to the same movie into a subfolder (within a minute of appearing in the monitored folder) to keep them all separate so that images etc stay with their parent movie. Trouble is they all have different names so the normal "Move" association either ignores the images altogether or places them into individual folders - neither of which is a good thing.

The attached image shows a list of the files that are related to the movie.

Question is how do I get DropIt to "Move" them all into a single new folder named after the Movie.

Thanks for any help :)

Hey, i hope you can help me. Sorry for my bad english.
Can i use DropIt for this case und how can I do it?
I get files, most of it are .pdf´s. And they all have the Name of my customers automatically in it. So "LastName_Prename_ContractNumber_xxxx.pdf"
Each Customer has its own Folder "Lastname, Prename".

Is it possible with Dropit do automatically move the Files in the Customer-Folder?
You would help me a lot!

Thanks!

Of course you can do that. It is one of the main target of this amazing program.
I just discovered it and at the moment could not help you with the profile but it should be very easy.
All the best

Hi guys,

I am new in using Dropit and after reading all the guides available can't figure out how to achieve what I am struggling to do.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Source folders:

W:\P590 - Vologda\6. Purchasing packages\P590 agitators\~suppliers~\ ...Supplier X... \
W:\P590 - Vologda\6. Purchasing packages\P590 air compressors\~suppliers~\ ...Supplier X...
W:\P590 - Vologda\6. Purchasing packages\P590 auxiliary pumps\~suppliers~\ ...Supplier X...

Under each "~supplier~" folder we have following subfolders: Supplier 1, Supplier 2, Supplier 3 etc.

Destination folder:

W:\GENERAL - AQM database\Suppliers\ ...Supplier X... \ Data sheets

I would like to list all datasheets in destination subfolders: Supplier 1, Supplier 2, Supplier 3 etc.
Each subfolder will have "Data sheets" subsubfolder.

Solution I use:

1. Name:
Copy
2. Rule:
W:\P590 - Vologda\**suppliers**
3. Action:
Copy
4. Destination folder:
W:\GENERAL - AQM database\Suppliers\

I am using automatic update and files keep appearing in following order with no file structure whatsoever:
W:\GENERAL - AQM database\Suppliers\%Filename%

I do not want variable Purchasing packages (i.e. P590 agitators) to be present in folder structure at all.

Also another question: if i delete file from source folder I also want it to be deleted in destination folder. Can it be done?

Thanks a lot!

Hi guys!

I just started to play with DropIt for rendering with Blender. My scenario is the following: Put the file to render in one folder which is monitored. DropIt picks up the new file and renders it with commandline arguments like this

Code: Select all

F:\Blender 2.83 E-Cycles RTX\blender.exe -b %DroppedDir%\%FileNameExt% -o C:\Users\xxxx\Desktop\outputfolder\%FileName%_#### -x 1 -f 1

When this is done, DropIt deletes the .blend file, because it would render indefinetely the same image.

I would like do do the following: Render the .blend file as above and when this is done, move the file to a Backup folder for later use. Sadly this is what I can´t figure out. Is it possible? I tried to do it with two associations, but DropIt asks me which one I like to execute.

Any help would really appreciate!

Cheers,
Christian

If I wanted to use this to monitor a folder and any PDF that hit this folder was printed and then deleted could DropIT handle that. I figured out how to get it to print anything that hits the folder, just not how to delete afterward?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a Newbie to DropIt.
I am looking for a rule to have 2 actions in sequence (such as I download a BankRecord and get it printed and archived (moved) right after).

Is there a way to configure such activity?

Is it possible to have Dropit parse a filename and add that information to an Excel spreadsheet? If I have a filename:

2020-05-15 STORE PRESCRIPTION $30.00.pdf

It would add to Excel file MEDICAL LOG.XLS so that when it open it would read
Date Provider Description Price
2020-05-15 STORE PRESCRIPTION $30.00
If not I'd appreciate suggestions or tool recommendations to do this. Thanks.
