9 Programs From Amok

#1 Post by modussn » Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:45 am

AmoK CD/DVD Burning
is for all those people who think burning programs such as Nero or WinOnCD are too overloaded with functionality that no one needs. AmoK CD/DVD Burning does not have a media center, wave editor, cover designer and cannot create videos. AmoK CD/DVD Burning burns CDs and DVDs and offers all options you need – nor more and not less.

AmoK DVD Shrinker
shrinks DVDs up to one fifth of the original size without any noticeable quality reduction. Due to the smaller file size the copy can be burned on a "normal" 2.5 or 4.7 DVD-R. The DVD's menus, subtitles, audio tracks etc all stay preserved. Though, if you want only the original film can be be copied/ripped.

AmoK DelayDel
Some files and folders are blocked for deletion by Windows XP and Windows Vista. If you try to delete these files you get an error message such as "Cannot delete folder: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." Especially films (.avi, .mpeg, .mpg) are sometimes difficult to delete but also DLLs and other files such as viruses or spyware.

AmoK Exif Sorter
is the easy but powerful solution for renaming your photos. All pictures of a digital camera can be renamed by AmoK Exif Sorter based on the pictures' metadata (EXIF and IPTC). Meta data are stored in every picture automatically by the camera. The data include information about the date when the picture was taken (year, month, day, hour, second) but also information about camera model, aperture, exposure, picture's size, and many more.

AmoK Playlist Copy
can read in a playlist and copy all contained files to a folder, MP3-Player, USB-Stick or whatsoever. In the target folder a new playlist is created or alternatively the files are numbered to keep the order of the playlist. And there are many features more: the original folder structure may be flattened, files may be numbered or alphabetically ordered, there is an internal mp3 player and the playlist of a currently running winamp may be imported.

AmoK MP3 ReEncoder
re-encodes MP3s to a lower bitrate. We developed the software for those people who
1) downloaded an MP3 with very high quality (e.g. 320 kbit/s) but just want it to be stored in reasonable quality (e.g. 196 kbits) on their hard drive to save disk space
2) want to copy as much MP3s as possible to their MP3-Player with limited storage capacity.

AmoK SFV Utility
is a small tool for creating and checking .sfv files. SFV stands for "Simple File Verification" and is a standard for describing a checksum for a file list. With a sfv file you can easily check if a download (of multiple files) is complete or if files are missing or files are damaged.

AmoK pop2rss
checks in short intervals one or more POP3 accounts and displays incoming emails as RSS-feed. AmoK pop2rss includes an own rss server - beside a news reader no more software is needed. AmoK pop2rss supports RSS 0.92, RSS 0.93, RSS 0.94, RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0 and Atom 0.3. The software runs (optional) as a service on system startup and basically works as a mailchecker. AmoK pop2rss is accessible via network (intranet and internet) and can be secured by a password.

AmoK xml2sql
converts XML-Dumps made with PhpMyAdmin back to SQL. AmoK xml2sql does not need a GUI and runs with command line.

If you check out DP's DVD burner software:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1124

he's pointing a link to Amok's:
http://amok.am/en/freeware/amok_cd-dvd_burning/

It claims to be portable:
Uninstall-Note: AmoK CD/DVD Burning has no uninstaller and doesn't need one since no entries are written to the registry. To remove the software, just delete the program folder and the entries on the desktop/start menue. That's it!
And its latest release was August 11th versus DP's last post at the end of '07. Sounds pretty good.

Two questions:
1. are AmoK applications portable?
2. given that "AmoK CD/DVD Burning" seems to be portable, if you confirm it can I replace "DP CD DVD Burner" with it?

Lupo PenSuite: all-in-one and completely free selection of portable programs and games.
DropIt: personal assistant to automatically manage your files.
ArcThemALL!: application to multi-archive your files and folders.

I don't know about "all", but Amok Exif Sorter is, though it requires Java.
I also replaced long ago DP CD DVD Burner with Amok CD DVD Burner, the latter also being portable.
