Appetizer - Portable Dock

#1 Post by Laurent »

Hello,

I'd like to submit my portable application: Appetizer. It is an open source portable launcher for Windows. It can be customized via skins and plugins and is available in multiple languages. It also has some nice features like the ability to kill the applications that are locking a drive before ejecting it.

The app is still under development but the latest version is already very stable and provides a good selection of features. Here is the full list:
  • * Support for plugins
    * Support for multiple skins (two included)
    * Resizable dock, which allows displaying the icons both horizontally or vertically.
    * Three sizes of icons: Small, large and extra-large
    * Support for custom icons
    * 'Wizard' to automatically imports shortcuts from various locations
    * Organize the icons by drag & dropping them
    * 'Multi-launch' functionality
    * Regroup multiple shortcuts within one menu
    * Hot key to hide / show the dock
    * Special items to provide extra functionalities: hide / show the desktop, Recycle Bin, Control Panel, etc.
    * Support for multiple languages
    * Minimize to tray icon functionality
The app is portable by default so there's no need to do any launcher for it. Just drop it on a USB drive and it works. Hope you like it :D

Worked for me after I quit and restarted the application.

This app has a lot of potential as a hybrid dock/launcher, especially like the program groups. Would love to see the feature set grow.

That's right, you have to restart the app for it to work (actually, there should have been a message box saying so. But who read message boxes... :P )

Appetizer has now reached version 1.3 so I'd like to submit it again for consideration :)

Here is the list of new features:

- New option to set the window transparency
- Added support for "Printer and Faxes" and "Network Connections" special items
- New plugin: "Close after launching an app"
- Improved plugin system.
- Skin: Added support for tiled background
- Plugins are now disabled by default
- Fixed: Improved support for Vista (installation and saving of settings)
- Fixed: USB hard drives were incorrectly detected as non-removable. As a result, the "Eject" button wasn't shown for these drives.
- Added hungarian localization
- Added italian localization (Massimo Lauria)
- Added Portuguese (BR) language

As usual the app is portable by default and works on Windows 2000, XP and Vista. Some news skins are also available on my website, and I hope that some more will be available soon. Here is a screenshot of the two default skins:

Hope you like it :wink:

Thanks Lupo. In fact, I'm looking for new features for version 1.4, so feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions ;)

This is a great program. It needs an entry for startup directory as some apps won't take arguments properly when used in Vista. FreeCommander is one example.

Thanks for letting me know justsky. I may add that in a future release as it seems that quite a few people are having trouble with the startup directory not being set correctly.

ive only used it for a few mins, and hey, who am i?, but i am a long time user and a hard core one at that of prtableapps. i like this, i really do, but a few things:
only a few apps have icons at the top, and if i hit the double arrow thingy i get a list, a long list of things i cant scroll though with my mouse or hitting the arrow at the bottom(by holding the left or right mouse button down and having it auto scroll?)

I like the appearance of the launcher, nice and soft.
Few suggestions:
1. Tabs instead of groups. Or optional.
2. Autohide and option to use hotspot to re-show the menu.
Good luck.

It's been requested many times so I'll take a look at it :)
