BSplayer - media player

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

The URL is no longer valid.

But I have a copy of the file downloaded a couple of days back, so I tried playing with it.

The settings seems to be written to BSplayer.<username>.xml, which is a problem if you switch machines with a different login name.

This is the same behaviour compared to when I first looked at BSPlayer (search for BSPlayer and look at the comments under non-portable apps). Am I missing something here?

Damn!
I will continue working on this to make it perfectly portable. Any updates will be posted on this forum...
The primary download link has been disabled due to too many dls.
I have uploaded it to a better place.

BS.Player ??

#8 Post by smallhagrid »

Hi Folks.
I got the latest BS.Player (2.6.5.1074) and managed to extract it's files.
It does open/run for me, but will not open streaming media (YT ?).

Does anyone here know of a portable-ized version of this or an easy way to make it portable ??
(I do have & use MPC, but would like to try this one further as a means of comparison.)

Thanks.

BS.Player Free 2.6.5.1074 is portable but not stealth.
I failed to open youtube videos and live streams using both free and paid versions. Maybe it's my setup. In their descriptions it says they should be able to open urls.

So how exacty does one go about getting/making the portable, please ??
Do you mean by the above that it is somehow part of the installation ??

Thanks.

I downloaded the fake installer from the homepage.
I started the installation using Sandboxie.
I unchecked the toolbar offering.
I continued the installation of the real setup package (downloaded by the fake installer).
I have chosen "Save settings in installation folder" during setup.
I allowed it to download the "missing" codecs.
I unchecked "Run BS.Player free" and finished the installation (of course it still opened my default browser to show me some web page).
I copied the installation folder outside the sandbox (which I cleaned).
That's it. You can run it from that folder and it will use the codecs it downloaded in its own folder and it will save the settings in its own folder...but it will still modify some registry keys.

Of course, you can do it the hard way, by stopping the installation after the real installer has been downloaded (btw, anyone has a link for the real installer?), then use Universal Extractor to extract the contents, then tweak the settings a little bit and arrange the files as they were supposed to be in the first place, etc...not recommended.

Great Info Joby_toss, thanks !!
I'm not very good with SBIE, but I can use Uninstall Tool to make sure it's all scraped out after copying it elsewhere.

(And I'll PM you a link for the real installer)

Thanks !!

Old thread update: the program is at version 2.72 and is now a freemium program with a pro feature list:
  • Playback of AVCHD video format
Support for global multimedia keyboard keys
    Play YouTube streaming HD video
Save YouTube streaming video to local disk
    Customizable Audio Equalizer
Support for Capture and Tuner devices (and Teletext support)
Capture Video from capture device to hard disk
    Integrated subtitle editor
Network file buffering (fluid playback of remote media files)
    Technical e-mail support
DVD support with highly functional DVD Front-End
Be eligible for all BS.Player upgrades for the full duration of your license
I can't find the program entry here on the site. Maybe it got overwritten.
