WinCryptHashers is a small plugin for the popular 7-Zip archiver. The plugin enables 7-Zip to display the hash values produced by additional hashing algorithms like MD5. WinCryptHashers also enables 7-Zip to generate text files with checksums.

The plugin can add support for the following hashing algorithms:
  • MD2
  • MD4
  • MD5
  • SHA-384
  • SHA-512

eDecoder is a plugin for the popular archiver 7-Zip. It enables 7-Zip to handle many different types of mailboxes (files that contain email messages) like archives. It also enables 7-Zip to handle email message files like archives. Thanks to eDecoder, you can easily extract an email message or only an email attachment from a mail base without using the email client that created that mail base. Moreover, eDecoder enables 7-Zip to open so-called web archive files (MIME HTML files, which usually have the extension MHT or MHTML), as well as to open or create UUE and XXE encoded files.

List of formats that can be opened in 7-Zip with eDecoder:
  • MGS - used by Microsoft Office Outlook
  • TNEF - used by Microsoft Office Outlook (winmail.dat or ATT0001.dat files)
  • DBX - used by Outlook Express 5 and 6
  • MBX - used by Outlook Express 4
  • MBOX - used by the following applications:
    • Mozilla Thunderbird
    • SeaMonkey
    • Netscape

http://www.tc4shell.com/en/7zip/thumbs7z/
Thumbs7z is a small plugin for the popular 7-Zip archiver. 7-Zip with Thumbs7z can open Windows thumbnail cache files and extract individual thumbnails from them.

List of formats that can be opened in 7-Zip with Thumbs7z

Files created in Windows XP and Windows Media Center:
  • Thumbs.db
  • ehthumbs.db
  • ehthumbs_vista.db
  • Image.db

http://www.tc4shell.com/en/7zip/iso7z/
Iso7z is a small plugin for the popular 7-Zip archiver. 7-Zip with Iso7z can quickly extract files from a disc image without mounting it. It supports disc images created in different applications.

Each track will be represented as a file whose type depends on the track type. An audio track will be represented as a WAV file, which you can play in any audio player. A track containing ISO9660 file system data will be represented as an ISO file. Iso7z also supports multi-session disc images; each session’s track will be represented as an ISO file. If an ISO9660 file system cannot be represented as an ISO file (for example, if a CD-ROM XA disc image contains files recorded in the Mode2/Form2 format), the track will be represented as a folder containing correctly decoded Mode2/Form2 files.

List of formats that can be opened in 7-Zip with Iso7z:
  • CCD/IMG - disc images created with CloneCD
  • CDI - disc images created with DiscJuggler
  • CHD (v4) - images used by MAME
  • CSO
  • CUE/BIN
  • GDI - Dreamcast Gigabyte disc images
  • ISZ - disc images created with UltraISO
  • MDS/MDF - disc images created with Alcohol 120%
  • NRG - disc images created with Nero Burning ROM
  • Zisofs compressed files

http://www.tc4shell.com/en/7zip/modern7z/
Modern7z is a plugin for the popular 7-Zip archiver. It adds support for the following leading-edge compression methods:
  • Zstandard v1.3.4
  • Brotli (under development)
  • LZ4 (under development)
  • LZ5 (under development)
  • Lizard (under development)
Each of these compression methods can only pack a single file. Multiple files are usually pre-packed into a container like TAR, and then it is compressed with the method. You can also use any of these compression methods as a codec when packing files into a .7z file.

Zstandard
Brotli

Lzip

You can install it in two ways:

1. complete setup with additions within the GUI and a modified Explorer context menu
2. only the codec plugin that goes to your existing 7-Zip installation

From the entry comments:

I did some digging and couldn't find any data on 7zip weaknesses. Could you list a source?

7-Zip 17.00 beta was released.

https://sourceforge.net/p/sevenzip/disc ... /1c6f64ad/
  • ZIP unpacking code was improved.
  • 7-Zip now reserves file space before writing to file (for extraction from archive). It can reduce file fragmentation.
  • Some bugs were fixed. 7-Zip could crash in some cases.
  • Internal changes in code.

7-Zip 17.01 beta was released.

https://sourceforge.net/p/sevenzip/disc ... /de8085ea/
What's new after 7-Zip 17.00 beta:
  • Minor speed optimization for LZMA2 (xz and 7z) multi-threading compression. 7-Zip now uses additional memory buffers for multi-block LZMA2 compression. CPU utilization was slightly improved.
  • 7-zip now creates multi-block xz archives by default. Block size can be specified with -ms[Size]{m|g} switch.
  • xz decoder now can unpack random block from multi-block xz archives. 7-Zip File Manager now can open nested multi-block xz archives (for example, image.iso.xz) without full unpacking of xz archive.
  • 7-Zip now can create zip archives from stdin to stdout.
  • 7-Zip command line: @listfile now doesn't work after -- switch. Use -i@listfile before -- switch instead.
  • The BUGs were fixed:
    • 7-Zip could add unrequired alternate file streams to WIM archives, for commands that contain filename wildcards and -sns switch.
    • 7-Zip 17.00 beta crashed for commands that write anti-item to 7z archive.
    • 7-Zip 17.00 beta ignored "Use large memory pages" option.

How do you install that in 7zip portable?

Also really wish they'd add some kind of button to save the hash or copy it to clipboard.

Same as in installed version, I suppose?

After that, copy WinCryptHashers.64.dll or WinCryptHashers.32.dll (depending on your 7-Zip edition) and WinCryptHashers.ini to that subfolder. If you do that, each time you launch 7-Zip, it will automatically find the WinCryptHashers plugin and use it when displaying checksums.

Thanks.

Yeah but I just want the hash, not all the other file garbage. Should hit up 7zip author about this.

WinCryptHashers.ini is a plain-text file that allows you to configure the plugin.
...
The Create section defines algorithms that can be used to generate text files with checksums.
...
If you want to generate a checksum file, select the appropriate archive format in the file packing dialog:

Then click the "OK" button, and 7zip will generate the checksum file.

  • Some bugs were fixed.

7-Zip 18.00 beta was released.
Thanks billon.

I've seen a few oddities with the new version (it's a beta after all). I'd recommend delaying update.

Security vulnerabilities in 7-Zip have been publicly disclosed. Worst of all, these vulnerabilities are fixed only in 7-Zip 18.00 beta.
