So this is weird.
I'm usually always logged in and this is what I see on the front page;
And the kicker is, it won't let me change the display entries...
But now if I come to this same page, in Firefox's "Private Window", so basically as a logged out user, it displays 10;
Are logged in users gimped to this "5" as default?
Cannot change the "Display X entiries" while logged in. (Front page)

Works fine for me.

Logged in users are not "gimped"
However, your post did lead me to discover a bug whereby selecting a new number causes the number of displayed entries to change, but not the actual number shown in the header. This, however, happens whether you are logged in or not. Basically, when you select a new number, that number should be persisted to a cookie, but due to the bug, the value is not updated in the cookie, leading to the header display not being updated.
I have now fixed the bug. I am not sure if it's related to what you were seeing, but I am secretly hoping it would fix that as well!

Well that be the bug then. Because as of right now everything works perfectly, previously for me it was always defaulting to 5, I would change it to 10 or whatever, leave the page then comeback, or even after just refreshing the page and it would be back to 5 again, as of now it has been staying at 10 since you fixed it, so good job, and thanks for being so darn active here (because that was a quick fix).

Had the same issue for ages, resorted to clearing cookies and saved data and re-login...
(I.e., while persistently logged in with Firefox, I'd change the number of posts visible to 10, only to find it reset back to 5 whenever I re-started Firefox. Rinse and repeat.)

Sometimes you just need to throw a tantrum Midas.
