It's been like this for a few days already:
Recent comments and updates look like they're nested under Recent forum topics, moreover Recent updates are totally not up-to-date.

Basically, there was an error with the batch job that generates the snippet for the recent forum posts. So the end tags for that snippet was never written, which causes the strange display that you saw.
