Meowtec Imagine (batch image optimizer)

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Meowtec Imagine (batch image optimizer)

#1 Post by slmnx »

[Mod Note: post subject edited for clarity, in order to avoid confusion with a pre-existing image viewer with the same name -- see https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1819]

From the readme of Imagine: Imagine is a desktop app for compression of PNG and JPEG, with a modern and friendly UI.

Features:
  • Multi format (JPEG, PNG, WebP)
  • Format conversion
  • Cross platform
  • GUI
  • Batch optimization
  • i18n (English, 简体中文, Nederlands, Español, Français, Italiano, Deutsch)
Portability: Zip file with imagine.exe in it for Windows, Linux and MAC and single portable executables files. Tested it on Windows. Linux, and MAC.

Installation. Download the .zip file and find imagine.exe to launch the program. On Linux, AppImage file can be used to bring the main interface of the software.

Personal experience: I've been using Imagine for quite sometime now(Windows and Linux) and I found it to be the best image compressor that I have ever used. The batch image compressing is that I liked the most. You just import all images you want to compress, set output quality individually and see the preview, and finally save the changes. Simple as that. You can write changes to same image files or save different ones.

Always interested in these types of programs -- thanks for posting.

Status: not portable, writes to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Imagine\. The program is Electron based, so I wasn't surprised.

Resources (megs): RAM: 60 across four processes, Disk Space: 140

Any idea on how to setup Imagemagick so it supports PNG?

Hi. I am sorry for replying late. I use it on Linux mostly, so there was no problem in JPG to PNG conversion. But on Windows, you can just install ImageMagick from here: https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5515 ... agick.html to fix that. After installation, you will just have to make sure that "magick" command is available in CMD.

As far as portability of the tool is concerned, I have made the request to the developer on GitHub issues. Let' see what happen next.

Thank you for pointing out that it writes to %UserProfile%/Roaming/Imagine

It can now be added to the portable freeware directory. The developer has now fixed the part where it was writing data to the user folder.
