By default Windows Photo Viewer in not accessible in Windows 10.

Windows Photo Viewer is a DLL located in:
C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll

Tutorial: How to restore the access to Windows Photo Viewer:

Actually, all you need to restore it to your account is to run the reg file:

I could not find if this issue had been addressed on TPFC.

Thanks. Didn't know that!

Anyway, almost anything is better than the abomination that is the default "Photos" app.

As this isn't specifically freeware related, I'm moving the topic to "Resources & Links".

Let me know if you object...

Great suggestion.

I'm so disappointed with Win10's photo application. The obligatory "what were they thinking?" note goes here but I also both love and hate this kind of thing:
  • I love when Microsoft screws up horribly with a default application like this (other examples include pulling Photo Editor from Office or sucking terribly with Wordpad) because it's exactly the sort of thing that propels people to sites like ours.
  • I hate when this happens because some people cannot install software on their computer either because they are in a high security installation or a low-trust area (such as a public library). So a lot of people are stuck using bad software.

That, compounded with lack of choice, is one of my pet peeves. :(
