eDecoder is a plugin for the popular archiver 7-Zip. It enables 7-Zip to handle many different types of mailboxes (files that contain email messages) like archives. It also enables 7-Zip to handle email message files like archives. Thanks to eDecoder, you can easily extract an email message or only an email attachment from a mail base without using the email client that created that mail base. Moreover, eDecoder enables 7-Zip to open so-called web archive files (MIME HTML files, which usually have the extension MHT or MHTML), as well as to open or create UUE and XXE encoded files.

List of formats that can be opened in 7-Zip with eDecoder:
  • MSG - used by Microsoft Office Outlook
  • TNEF - used by Microsoft Office Outlook (winmail.dat or ATT0001.dat files)
  • DBX - used by Outlook Express 5 and 6
  • MBX - used by Outlook Express 4
  • MBOX - used by the following applications:
    • Mozilla Thunderbird
    • SeaMonkey
    • Netscape
    • Apple Mail
    • Opera
    • Opera Mail
    • Eudora
    • Mulberry
    • Pine
    • PocoMail
    • and by many other email clients
  • TBB - used by The Bat!
  • PMM - used by Pegasus Mail
  • EMLX - used by Apple Mail

http://www.tc4shell.com/en/7zip/iso7z/
Iso7z is a small plugin for the popular 7-Zip archiver. 7-Zip with Iso7z can quickly extract files from a disc image without mounting it. It supports disc images created in different applications.

Each track will be represented as a file whose type depends on the track type. An audio track will be represented as a WAV file, which you can play in any audio player. A track containing ISO9660 file system data will be represented as an ISO file. Iso7z also supports multi-session disc images; each session’s track will be represented as an ISO file. If an ISO9660 file system cannot be represented as an ISO file (for example, if a CD-ROM XA disc image contains files recorded in the Mode2/Form2 format), the track will be represented as a folder containing correctly decoded Mode2/Form2 files.

List of formats that can be opened in 7-Zip with Iso7z:
  • CCD/IMG - disc images created with CloneCD
  • CDI - disc images created with DiscJuggler
  • CHD (v4) - images used by MAME
  • CSO
  • CUE/BIN
  • ECM - disc images compressed with ECM Tool
  • GDI - Dreamcast Gigabyte disc images
  • ISZ - disc images created with UltraISO
  • MDS/MDF - disc images created with Alcohol 120%
  • NRG - disc images created with Nero Burning ROM
  • Zisofs compressed files
Image
The plugin also contains a special codec RawSplitter that enables 7-Zip to efficiently pack uncompressed raw disc images (CCD/IMG, CDI, CUE/BIN, GDI, MDS/MDF, or NRG) into 7z archives. Moreover, RawSplitter can slightly improve the compression of DAT files from Video CD discs (such files are usually named AVSEQxx.DAT and have the RIFF and CDXA signatures at the beginning of the file).

Modern7z is a plugin for the popular 7-Zip archiver. It adds support for the following leading-edge compression methods: Each of these compression methods can only pack a single file. Multiple files are usually pre-packed into a container like TAR, and then it is compressed with the method. You can also use any of these compression methods as a codec when packing files into a .7z file.
Image
Usage

To pack a file using an methods supported by Modern7z, select the standard "Add to archive..." 7-Zip command. When the "Add to Archive" dialog box appears, select the archive format you want to use in the "Archive format" field:

https://www.tc4shell.com/en/7zip/mfilter/
MFilter is a filter plugin for the popular 7-Zip archiver designed to deliver higher compression ratios to certain multimedia file types by means of automatic pre-processing. The filter itself does not provide compression, and requires co-use of a compressing codec.

Specifically, here is what MFilter does over the files being compressed:
  • The filter re-compresses JPEG files using Brunsli or Lepton methods. This also applies to embedded thumbnails and JPEG files attached to or embedded into other files, like PDF.
  • The filter performs delta encoding of the following raster graphic file types:
    • uncompressed BMP
    • PNM (PPM, PGM, PAM)
    • uncompressed TIFF
    • uncompressed DNG
    • uncompressed RAW (3FR, ARW, NEF and others)
    • uncompressed TGA
  • The filter uses the WavPack method to compress WAV-files with uncompressed PCM audio. The following file types are automatically identified and compressed:
    • WAV (including BWF/RL64 and Multiple Data Chunks (Legacy Audition Format) formats)
    • CAF (Core Audio Format)
    • W64 (Sony Wave64)
    • DFF (Philips DSDIFF)
    • DSF (Sony DSD stream)
    • AIF, AFC (Аudio Interchange File Format, including AIFF-C format)
    • SF2 (SoundFont)
  • The filter decodes data in BASE64 format.
  • The filter applies BCJ, ARM, ARMT, IA64, SPARC and PPC filters to the corresponding executables.
The below screenshot clearly shows how the compression rate improves after packing:

Image
Usage

To use the filter, select the standard "Add to archive" command in 7-Zip and choose the 7z format in the Archive format field:

Image

Due to limitations of the 7-Zip interface you cannot select an additional filter directly, so in order to use MFilter you should add "f=mfilter" to the Parameters field. Configure other settings as you need.

Excellent post - I had no idea any of these existed. I'm most surprised by the Outlook MSG opener as I remember trying to find a way to open those files sans Outlook a few years ago and coming up completely empty.

Have you tried any of these and if so, do any affect portability?

I have a lot of old Outlook/Outlook Express backup files that this may be very useful for as I wouldn't have to keep the older systems around. I could still keep using some of the older systems for DOS/Win3.1-9x gaming instead of using emulators.
