Duplicate File Finder (12 oclock software)

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Duplicate File Finder (12 oclock software)

#1 Post by __philippe »

[Moderator note: this thread was split from the Duplicate File Finder (Brooks Younce) thread.]

@webfork
Findings Seconded, your honour... :)

Indeed,
Simple Duplicate Finder v1.2.0.3 (née Duplicate File Finder  ) leaves no objectionable Registry traces whatsoever.

Furthermore, here is a germane transcript from a recent Comments section post:
Simple Duplicate Finder v1.2.0.3 - link date 20-FEB-2012
Just re-discovered this antediluvian gem of a dups finder...;-)

What's not to like ?

• Terse, elegant, skillfully crafted GUI
• Option for similitude percentage match (shades of AntiDupl.NET ? )
• Filter for file extension
• Duplicate entries results neatly listed as offset to the stem file
• Stunningly fast execution (files CRC used as match criteria)
• Tiny footprint (117KB exe)
Leanest of TPFC's "Duplicate Checkers" current 11 entries

Oldie, but goodie...Recommended.

I find this thread very confusing!
There is an application called 'Simple Duplicate Finder' available from its Home Site...
http://www.simpleduplicatefinder.com/
It's by New Valley Soft; it's at version 1.1.8 ; it's not freeware (costs £16.09)

The originator of this thread described the file as Duplicate File Finder by Brooks Younce (BY) software. The original Home Site (http://www.brooksyounce.com) does not exist but software informer tells me that the latest available version is 3.5. In fact that is the version I have.

webfork's contribution continued the confusion (for me)
He provided 2 d/l locations for Duplicate File Finder 3.0
1. web.archive.org which gives 2 sites...
Both confirm the software as BY
2. Snapfiles which describes 'Duplicate File Finder' in its text but describes 'Simple Duplicate Finder in a heading.
It gives the Publisher as 12oclock Software and the version as 1.2

_phillippe's contribution prolonged the confusion
He specifically states Simple Duplicate Finder v1.2.0.3 (née Duplicate File Finder)

The problem is that 'Simple Duplicate Finder' is NOT a rename of 'Duplicate File Finder'. They belong in separate threads. It's aggravated by the fact the different publishers use the same name. But that's not TPFC's fault. It's a pity that a single thread is used for discussions!

@JohnW

Please check Simple Duplicate Finder v1.2.0.3 Comments section

Therein, on 2012-10-07 00:30, TP109 clearly states
The author changed the name to Simple Duplicate Finder.
Doesn't appear to have a new version. Says it its supported only in WinXP and Win7.

Just to make sure we are both talking about the same product... 8)

First, thanks for the heads-up on this. I've spent a LOT of time over the years trying to manage threads in such a way as to prevent this.

Second, you may be right that this thread is in fact discussing 3 totally different programs. There is a frustrating amount of naming overlap in freeware, something I've spoken to developers about many times with little success.

I'll see what I can do to minimize the confusion here.
