Meld - text and directory comparison

#1 Post by webfork » Fri Nov 04, 2016 4:17 pm

This is a great program, definitely a possible replacement for some of the more specific, detailed operations I once used FreeFileSync for. I'm really impressed.
synopsis wrote: Meld is a visual diff and merge tool targeted at developers. Meld helps you compare files, directories, and version controlled projects. It provides two- and three-way comparison of both files and directories, and has support for many popular version control systems.
Usage notes:
  • * I love the tabbed comparison so you can run multiple checks at once

    * Includes filters

    * Works on files and folders, and you can right click on a given file (if text format) to open it in the comparison window

    * Allows the viewing of 3 panes of changes for a more detailed understanding

    * The program auto-detects changes and prompts you to reload
Screens:
License: GPL v2

Steps: Biorube's Uniextract (the latest), run Meld.exe

Portable: probably not: I believe it's writing to the registry but my test didn't work correctly so I'm not sure. Either way, it creates an empty folder in AppData

To my knowledge Meld is not portable:

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GSettings\org\gnome\meld
and it saves data in:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\meld

Once I tested it and I was thinking to write about it here but in fact didn't like it very much and didn't get used to it.

One of the screens I once prepared:

I checked in on this project earlier this year and it looked to be offline, but development seems to have resumed with some nice updates:

Although the program can be extracted, it doesn't look like there are any new features addressing portability.
