But it does take a long while to be gone from my system, and I still get a 'PrintIsolationHost.exe' process left over...

Kind of late to jump on this ship, but the OP mentioned using Windows 8.
Since then, Windows 10 came out (as a free upgrade to Windows with a built-in PDF printer.
Did you happen to try it?
