MusicWire

#1 Post by smaragdus »

[Moderator note: As mentioned later in this thread, this program has experienced some downtime.]

----

About MusicWire:
Effectiveness
MusicWire can search for music from several sources, that have more than 100 million MP3 audio files.

Portability
No need to install and has small size. You can run it from your USB flash drive, memory card or external HDD.

Compatibility
The default output format is MP3, which is supported by most devices, ranging from mobile phones, car players or music players.
MusicWire features:
- Search by track, author or album name
- TOP-1000 sound tracks
- Quick search video on YouTube
- Quick search music information on Last.fm
- Choose download directory
- Automatically play downloaded songs
- Download history
- Friendly UI

MusicWire download:

MusicWire screen-shots:

- MusicWire settings:
MusicWire 1.6 - 002 - 2015-12-01.png
MusicWire portability:
MusicWire is natively portable saving all its data and settings in param.ini and downloads.ini files inside program folder.

MusicWire notes:
- I prefer the previous version of MusicWire (1.6), because the current one MusicWire (1.7) has been dumbed down:
1.7 Simplifying UI. 29.11.2015
Open Download Folder (F5) button has been removed (the screen-shots I attached are from version 1.6).
- The support e-mail provided in MusicWire 'About' menu doesn't seem to be valid.
- If someone needs MusicWire version 1.6 I can upload it.

Sweet. 8)

In my summary testing of MusicWire v1.7, I found your findings to be accurate. I can tell you right away there's an option to "Open in Explorer" in v1.7 if you right-click any downloaded entry, but it apparently isn't working, as in my case always opened my "Libraries" location. I also found that MusicWire accepts relative paths -- e.g., 'downloads\' -- both in its settings ('param.ini') and in history ('downloads.ini') plain text files.

I only wish more file details were shown in search results -- while testing, after searching for a somewhat obscure native kiwi interpreter, of the 3 files I downloaded, two had 128kbps bitrates and are of little interest to me (I can get way better quality on Utoobe with 3DYD).

But if what you're looking for is immediate results, it's hard to beat MusicWire convenience.

BTW, MusicWire interface shows only two undisclosed targets for the queries, making it oddly similar to another portable recently discussed here at TPFC, whose name I'm unable to recall ATM...

OT! Just noticed it's mah post 2727; it's a little late for this, but hey, it's music related, so here goes anyway...

I uploaded the previous version of MusicWire (1.6) if you prefer an easier and faster access to download folder- the only change in version 1.7 seems to be the removal of two buttons- 'Download Folder' and 'Donate'

The VirusTotal results for the file (MusicWire 1.6.zip) I uploaded:

@smaragdus Thanks for uploading version 1.6. I, too, prefer it over version 1.7

Tested MusicWire 1.6: Portable

How do I disable the auto check for updates?

MusicWire 1.8 released, changes:
v1.8
Returned quick access to the download folder and added the ability to disable the automatic check for updates. 03.12.2015
Perhaps the developer is reading this forum.

About 'Update Check'- using version 1.6 I never got any update notifications.

Type a keyword and press enter to search, you will get the update check.

It's very similar to Music2pc with some of the same benefits and problems.
  • Super simple
  • Draws from two unnamed music sources
  • Grabs high bitrate files
  • No analysis of file size
On the plus side, it doesn't rename files with that tedious music2pc.com prefix and can do batch downloads.

Wishlist
  • Show file size in search window. Unless you start downloading, it won't show up.
  • Ability to set the player of choice. Right now it just auto-plays whatever your default player.
  • Relative path for download (e.g. application folder) as right now in settings it's a hard link (e.g. C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\MusicWire)
  • Support for Unicode characters. It's grabbing a lot of data from what I think are Chinese-language songs and it's just showing that as "Êðàñêè Ãîðîäà"
  • Filter duplicate results
  • Better genre searches (right now it's all keywords)

Reason: (additional bit about search)

MusicWire not working

#10 Post by DaveP1949 »

Looks like MusicWire has died. Was getting exactly the same list of obscure tracks in the results, regardless of what was entered in the search box (!) but now getting no results at all.

Unfortunately DaveP1949 is right that Search inside MusicWire no longer works. I tried to contact the developer(s) via an e-mail address once provided at the web-site but it no longer works either- I got error 550 - Unknown user. I suppose this is the end of MusicWire.

Extermination and/or extinction does seem to be a habit of these types of music search programs (take, for instance Groovedown, for one).

Just tried it again and it seems to back to its old self but for how long, I wonder?

MusicWire at version 2.0, changes:
v2.0. Added new music source and more songs in the TOP-1000. 29.12.2016
The search works fine.

MusicWire at version 2.2, latest changes:
v2.1. Added 2 new music sources. Amazing search results. 13.05.2017
v2.2. Disabled non-working music source. 16.05.2017
MusicWire version 2.2 works fine for me, thanks to the developer for still maintaining it.

However I disagree that "Brazilian" language exists.
