CloneApp (system settings backup utility)

#1 Post by Midas »

I noticed that CloneApp has a "portable" download -- I haven't tested it(!), but with Windows 10 looming it might interest the community.

CloneApp requires administrator rights and has a list of supported programs at https://www.mirinsoft.com/apps.

Download CloneApp latest release (currently v1.04.340) from www.mirinsoft.com /index.php/download/viewdownload/39-cloneapp/180-cloneapp-portable.

CloneApp seems to be fully portable, all the settings are stored in 'Data' sub-folder (in INI and DAT files).
The latest version of CloneApp is 1.07.427.

synopsis wrote:A fresh re-install always makes Windows much faster, but that means you lose all your program settings. CloneApp will Backup all your App settings from Windows directories and the Registry and only those you really need. The Idea behind is a bit different from the "classic" Backup tool. The Main purpose is to backup ONLY the Configuration files left in Windows Program directories and the Registry.
It's a cool idea.

Topic update: CloneApp v2.15.606 released 2020-10-12 (changes and downloads at https://github.com/builtbybel/CloneApp/releases).

Mirinsoft CloneApp homepage is dead -- last Archive.org snapshot:

http://web.archive.org/web/20200116063200/http://www.mirinsoft.com/ms-apps/cloneapp

According to its author, CloneApp has been superseded by AppCopier (currently at v0.30):
I've written and tested Appcopier on Windows 11, but it should also run on Windows 10 (no guarantee from me, though). Give it a try! This is the first release, and there's more to come.
