Hi Midas,

could you maybe have a look into the system.log file which is located where your profile are? Either it's in %AppData% or directly in your jaBuT Backup root directory under "jaBuT\logs\system".
Right after clicking on the button for installing the updates it should log "Program settings saved". If not there is something wrong.

On my machines (Windows XP up to Windows 10) everything works fine.
In any case this is really strange. I've tried to reproduce this issue in Windows XP up to Windows 10 and I wasn't capable of getting that message.
I've released a hotfix for that issue. With what I changed now the dialogue should never ever pop up again after updating. If it's popping up again, I really do not know where the issue is because programmatically there shouldn't be one.

The logs seem to be normal.
When I asked about the logs I maybe thought the program is silently crashing or something but it isn't.
Let's hope the issue has been removed with my recent fix release.

I suspect it might be related to permissions, the most common culprit in such cases. But, apart from moving files, have no way to make sure... :?

Hi Midas,

this you can test easily:
when opening up the settings, change something, click OK and restart / close jaBuT, are your changes being saved / applied?
If so, permissions are OK.
I think with a permission issue system.log could not be written too.

Technically and normally after the changes I made the dialogue shouldn't come up anyome after updating.
But while implementing the current pending feature I will have a look at this.

Hi everyone,

I've just released a small update which fixes an issue which caused displaying wrong data in the preview dialogue.
Nothing special but an annoying GUI issue.

The current build number is 23250.
The update can be downloaded through the internal updater or directly from https://jabut.de/en/download/

If you find a bug do not hesitate to contact me :)

Hi Midas,

I've removed this dialogue now. Forgot to remove it last time, sorry.
For this minor change I've not set up any changelog entry.

This updated file (updater) can be downloaded through the internal updater only. No updated setups, no updated portables.

Thanks for letting me know =)

Hi everyone,

not an update today BUT I've set up a page on which you can see what I've already been working on so far and whats done.

There are two categories: regular changes and roadmap changes.
The regular changes category lists all changes you get in normal updates.
Roadmap updates lists everything what I've already done regarding my roadmap goals. This is another code base and won't be released as an update until it's finished.

The internal changelog list can be visited here: https://jabut.de/en/changelog-internal/

Update time!

I have just released update build 23612 of jaBuT Backup.
I fixed several critical issues, improved the code base a bit which solved also some smaller problems and added two new options.
Furthermore I removed some features due to a upcoming very big refactor build which will resolve a lot of code based problems and bring in a completely new profile list!

The new update can be downloaded, as usual, from the website or through the updater.

Download : https://jabut.de/en/download/#download
Changelog: https://jabut.de/en/changelog-release/#v20190323612

If you find a bug do not hesitate to contact me :)
Either here in the forum, via the integrated contact form in jaBuT Backup or via e-mail: https://jabut.de/en/imprint/.

NOTE:
this build of jaBuT Backup won't get new features now. All new features coming will be implemented in the new refactor build which I will release in this year. I hope I can finish it in Q2 this year. But in case I scheduled it for Q3 to have some headroom. Also see here: https://jabut.de/en/roadmap/

To always be up to date of the new build, you can read my twitter posts here: https://twitter.com/jaBuTBackup

I regret to report that I got an error while upgrading to the latest version (from the previous one) via the integrated updater.

Funny enough, the update went through and everything appears to work -- I even have all the profiles I had created before. :|

Hi midas.

Could you please tell me what operating system you are using? Looks like a modified XP or Windows 7 to me. I've tested jaBuTSettingsConverter.exe on my virtual machines and I didn't get this error unfortunately.
Just to be sure everything is fine I've re-compiled everything and uploaded it to the webserver again.

What jaBuTSettingsConverter is doing after this update is not super necessary to run jabuT Backup. This time it's only renaming existing directories in profiles-meta\ directory to md5 hashes calculated by using the directory names.
If you were not using include and exclude file lists before and also not custom commands for running programs before and after a profile run you are fine.
