WindowTabs - add tabs to any application

#1 Post by webfork » Sat Dec 27, 2014 1:27 pm

Softpedia Synopsis wrote:WindowTabs is an application designed to improve the management of desktop applications through customizable tabs. The application allows you to add tabs to programs so that their windows are grouped together for you to access them easier.
The program claims a portable version, but only works with 3 tabs PER WINDOW in the free version. For my particular setup, there are about 7 LibreOffice windows open at any one time (most are hidden under Minime). I can stack 3 under a loose subheading of projects another 3 under administrative. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far with this application just because I needed it to do something specific and I got frustrated when it didn't do what I wanted. Doesn't mean it's not portable or worthwhile, just that I have a short attention span on that particular topic. Stashing this under "discussion" for now.

Notes from testing:

I would disable "Run WindowTabs" at start up in the Settings - Behavior tab. I also disabled "enable all tabs for all programs by default" and then checked the boxes under programs I wanted to combine in the "Programs" tab.

Edit: appears to write settings to WindowTabsSettings.txt but didn't test for portability.

Nice app. I've always wanted a multi-tabbed native Notepad.

App takes up about 21MB RAM for those that are interested. Trying to figure out what other apps I've always wanted tabs for, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment :)
is it stealth? ;)

Update here: The program went open source (https://github.com/mauricef/WindowTabs) but still maintains the 3 window limitation for the basic version. Still works well on Win10, though sometimes the interface hesitates.
