I use the batch version of 3D YouTube Downloader a lot with XP and it consistantly locks up the PC if left in the background for a time, perhaps like an hour or so. Haven't tested to see if the same thing happens with the non-batch version.

No one has spotted that after version 1.6.0 the Options menu has been ruined?

- Options in version 1.6.0:

3D Youtube Downloader 1.6.0 - options - 2015-11-16.png (5.79 KiB) Viewed 19692 times

- Options in version 1.9.0:

I hate when program's interface deteriorates and I removed 3D Youtube Downloader from favourites.

hmm I don't think it "deteriorated' so much as it is just different. I think its because more and more options was being added, it was simpler to just have a single tree style menu vs bigger window with more tabs... or something. Foobar2000's advanced options is displayed this way. And these options aren't often tweaked anyway so you will rarely go back to it.

So Avast listed this file as bad but I ran it through VT and it's coming up as a very probable false-positive:

File Data

Filename: 3dyd_1.10.1.exe
MD5: 8B2D154554C14B7ED1DD77E8F25097D0
SHA1: F14DEFC9F1EB92A16838544041F72151A30C64FB

VirusTotal Rating: 01/56

Recent changes (to me anyway) include RSS capability, bringing this a little closer to gPodder but still missing that tool's batch capability.

Can anyone explain why, although the individual terms are present in 3DYD database entry, a search for "3d youtube" comes up empty? It really damages my trust in search results... :(

Preaching to the choir, probably,
but TPFC DB search engine parser has always seemed a tad quirky, not to say unreliable...
(In this specific case, a lone "Youtube" argument by itself does return likely hits)

OTOH, "Forum" searches feel much more reliable...;-)

It's weird, but if you put a hyphen in there it works ( try: 3d-youtube )
:?

Likely 3d doesn't meet a hidden minimum characters threshold since searching for the string on its own doesn't return any other results with 3d in them either (true as well for ip).

I see. Thanks for the input. I knew forum search required a minimum of 3 characters in a word for the query to go through, but was not expecting that limitation to silently void a multi word search in the database.

Topic update: 3D Youtube Downloader v1.17.2 released 2019-11-28 (changelog at https://yd.3dyd.com/changelog/).

From this version 3DYD now supports DNS-over-HTTP (DoH) natively. But there are changes on the Youtube front as well (AKA Error 429)...

Youtube seems to have started detecting and blocking undesirable access to the service. While normal surfing via browser would work, if you open Youtube in private tab, it will ask for verification that you are not a robot (via captcha test). Workaround at this moment is to pass this verification in the browser and copy HTTP cookies from Youtube page to the program.

i wonder if youtube will eventually prevent off-site downloading (if its possible)?

I think it will happen if too many people download/stream videos from YouTube in unofficial ways (various YT downloaders, YouTube Vanced etc.) become too common. In general, Google wants heavy users of YouTube who don't want ads to register to YouTube Premium (like I have done, BTW).

i''m surprised they haven't done it already

i couldn't stomach putting money directly in the pocket of youtube/google though, considering their behaviour -
censorship, slanting search results, etc

thanks to 3DYD and JDownloader i'm able to avoid going to the youtube website about 95% of the time

I am more or less forced to use Vanced on mobile to cut through the crap (ads, annotations, garbage recommendations, etc.) whenever I am forced to go to YouTube.

Mind you, Vimeo is much better on all counts but orders behind in terms of popularity and sheer content volume.
