Re: Hddb (Hard Disk Database) File Search

Despite some really excellent and fast file search tools available in the freeware space, I still keep finding uses for the HDDB program. To be clear, HDDB is a terminated project with no indication it will be resurrected, but it does have a few functions still not found in similar tools, including:
  • Near-instant sorting
  • Lots of search tools, controls over search updates
  • Will show a historical listing of what files looked like days or weeks ago rather than what's currently on your system until you have a timed / manual refresh
  • Folder sizing and hashing

Apart from a few minor bugs, the only major negative is occasional crashing on Win10.

I wanted to return to this thread to post about Everything, which is HDDB's closest competitor and is still regularly maintained.

It appears as though Everything now supports instant sorting, which was one of the main drawbacks vs. HDDB. Memory usage is about the same. I still like the usability of HDDB over Everything though, but Everything can definitely be used in place of HDDB now.
is it stealth? ;)
