SavageEd (abandoned lightweight text editor)

#1 Post by 4Gigs »

[Mod note: the present topic was consolidated from several old posts to serve as the official forum topic for the legacy text editor SavageEd, which has a TPFC database entry at www.portablefreeware.com/?id=633; please note the developer only supports SavageEd2, a newer program whose entry is at www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2186; post subject edited, original was "SavageEd 1.3.0".]

Recent Change Log:

v1.30
-fixed bug in cancelling "Save As" of Untitled documuments
during Auto Save.
-fixed recent files under private profile
-recent files now only save one copy of any filename
-added new Menu Option Recent Files > Open Most Recent
-changed behavior: switching from "Use Private Profile"
to "Use Registry" no longer deletes any existing
SavageEd.ini file... in case user decides to switch
back and wants to restore previous settings.
-changed behavior: automatic log entry for .LOG options
no longer changes the modified status of a document unless
user makes changes directly.
-fixed double log entries

Last (and only) SavageEd version I had is v1.4.5 v1.4.6 (dated originally from 2010-11-27).

EDIT: while testing juverax version, as both executables were the same, I realized that the version I posted earlier is in fact v1.4.6; I was misled by 'SavageEd_doc.txt' but after I ran it, the "About" box clearly states it.

That link didn't work in SeaMonkey for me (it did with Wget, though)...

But I found that version's page at https://www.techspot.com/downloads/4254-savageed.html.

What's New:
  • replace with empty string now works

Better yet, source is included just in case some savvy assembly dev wants to fork it -- because If only SavageEd had URL auto-activation, it would be the perfect light & fast Notepad replacement. :nerd:
