A good Nomacs intro vid [youtube].

Recommend jumping ahead 30 seconds past the intro but this is a good overview with a clear explanation of why he uses it, what it does, and how to get it. Although the author installs the program rather than using the portable version, he talks a bit about file associations that could be applied to portable users.

That's peculiar -- yeah looks like a bug. Thanks!

Some usage notes:

The cropping function is a revelation: the ability to not only create a box but also immediately rotate it seems like a misstep for every program I've tested before this one. It's hard to go back to normal cropping. I also love the default setting for your slideshow (Spacebar) and it has great animation that lets you quickly look through your pictures.

* Previews embedded images in Microsoft office files, which is nice. Doesn't currently work with PDF files.

* Image edit functions are neat, but pretty basic in comparison to other open source tools like xlideit for image addendums and PhotoDemon for photography. PhotoDemon of course isn't available outside of the Windows OS. The "Tiny Planet" and "Fake Miniatures" edits are fun to play around with.

That's a really weird one. I can't figure it out! Did you just click on the "rocks" link, or do you remember seeing anything out-of-the-ordinary?

It's weird because the code only assigned one of two values to that field (-1, or 1). Yet the value that was inserted was 0 (or maybe it was not touched because it's a new column, which could only happen if somehow an instance of the old rating code was running).

Anyway, I will continue to monitor this. So far, this is the only row with the 0 value, so hopefully it's just a glitch that happened during the cut-over to the new code (and database table).

BTW, I have amended the vote, so we should see webfork (+5) pretty soon.

No problem, thanks for working on this and trying to revise the rating system. I'm very glad you're active with the site and still tweaking the system.
