Just found out Raymond.cc included Bandizip in the latest freeware/payware compressor shootout:

Good post ... I liked this quote:
The archivers that offer a good blend of performance and a high compression ratio are free programs, 7-Zip, HaoZip and BandiZip (and PeaZip).
Very interesting to see how some of the high compression tools outside of RAR and 7zip fared (not great).

Bandizip v5.17  (released 23-DEC-2016)  last available XP-aware, old-style Portable zip package
Bandizip v6.0    (released 26-MAR-2017)

Interestingly, the new 6.0 version introduces command-line support, but at the same time, summarily drops winXP support altogether... :o

For anyone interested, Ghacks recently ran a brief review of the new version:
http://www.ghacks.net/2017/03/27/bandiz ... interface/

following in the tracks of last-year "first-look" beta version review:
http://www.ghacks.net/2016/08/15/bandizip-6-0/

User comments indicate a general aversion for the "new-look", flat design GUI introduced in v6.0.

The UI bug present since Bandizip v1.x and reported several times around TPFC still hasn't been fixed in v6.01...

Edit 2020: I really liked Bandizip and would've stuck with the last freeware were it not for this OCD aggravating bug. As it is, I moved on to Winrar.

Just a heads up
... plans to launch Bandizip 7.0 soon; the new version has a new licensing system that divides the program into a free, advertisement powered, version and two commercial versions for professional and Enterprise use.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I sort of get it as almost every company I've worked for has had some kind of internally available download for 7zip and I don't get the sense that any of them gave the developer a dime, so I understand why Bandizip is trying to get some dough back. However, it's 7zip's status as open and free is exactly the reason it's so ubiquitous; your software can't get in the door with a closed or adware license without some lengthy internal evaluation.

Welp, time to remove Bandizip. I'm probably going to move to 7-zip or WinRAR (even though it isn't freeware).

Was going to report Ghacks.net findings -- but I'm glad to see it's taken care of. :)

I don't think I'm overreacting. A lot of people are moving on from Bandizip. Check the comments on that ghacks.net article.
