NoteXpad 2.0 is available from ...
http://ryan.ript.net/notexpad/

Just what we've been waiting for (!!!) a NotePad replacement.
Still for the sake of maintaining an exhaustive database here are some details.
Tested against Regshot and seems OK.

Besides the usual text editor features it includes ...
- Source Code! available if desired
- Stay-on-top
- Displays current line/column numbers
- Displays current size of document
- Transparency
- Customizable colors and font
- Display file properties (modify attributes, etc)
- Handles both UNICODE and ANSI files
- Automatic TXT file association (optional)

Yep. Windows 2000, in other words. For example, running "ver" at a Command Prompt on my machine returns:
Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]

other than the source code, stay on top, document size, transparency.....errr...okay so it DOES have a lot of features, but for the most part, it's only eye candy :P
