CUETools - DotNET audio/CUE 'ripper'
CUETools - DotNET audio/CUE 'ripper'
CUETools V2.1.2
Website: http://www.cuetools.net/wiki/Main_Page
Stealth: Yes, only if you delete "user_profiles_enabled".
Dependencies: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (SP2) and Visual C++ 2008 runtime
License: Free
How to extract: Download and extract .rar file to desired location. Launch "CUETools.exe".
Size: 4.75mb (extracted)
Note: CUETools now comes with CUERipper which is a utility for extracting digital audio from CDs, an open-source alternative to EAC and supports Musicbrainz and Freedb metadata databases, AccurateRip and CTDB.
Synopsis: CUETools is a tool for lossless audio/CUE sheet format conversion. The goal is to make sure the album image is preserved accurately. Lossless disc image must be lossless not only in preserving contents of the audio tracks, but also in preserving gaps and CUE sheet contents. Many applications loose vital information upon conversion, and don't support all possible CUE sheet styles. For example, foobar2000 looses disc pre-gap information when converting an album image, and doesn't support gaps appended (noncompliant) CUE sheets.
Path: CUETools uses output path templates similar to foobar2000 title formatting syntax.
Supported Platforms: CUETools is a .NET application, written in C#. Binaries are available for 32 bit (x86) and 64 bit (x64) Windows versions. .NET Framework 2.0 and Visual C++ 2005 SP1 runtime are required. Users report they have been able to use it under linux, using Mono, but in this scenario only WAV audio is supported, as other codecs are not yet ported to C#.
Why i use it?
If you prefer FLAC and creating 1:1 backups of your audio CDs.. you'll appreciate CUETools. Do not confuse this with CueMaster, which is garbage and extremely inaccurate.. completely useless. CUETools is the standard for splicing FLAC Albums using CUE Sheet and can handle pregaps, offsets, and can verify against AccurateRip, Music Brainz, Freedb, and CTDB. The new version 2.1.2 now supports AccurateRip v2 which is even more precise.
The only drawback is the dependencies. Im not sure if this fits TPFC's standard.. but this app. is so useful.. it atleast belongs in TPFC's forum.
Change log:
14.06.2011: CUETools 2.1.2:
AccurateRip v2 support (without cross-pressing verification)
EAC CTDB plugin
CTDB now supports musicbrainz Next Generation Schema (NGS) metadata. Old musicbrainz library removed. New musicbrainz NGS metadata can now be used in filename templates, including %discname%, %label%, %releasedate%, %country%, %releasedateandlabel%, %discnumberandname%
CTDB submissions are now based on the same data that was used when verifying, so 'submit' script was removed, and data is submitted after verification, after showing confirmation dialog
CTDB verification is now much faster
Local DB: option to purge records
Local DB: now shown in the same window as folder browser
metadata editing window size is now saved in settings
CUERipper now sends CD barcode and rip quality when submitting
support for wierd CDs with two data tracks before audio

Re: CUETools
Having just discovered that CueTools includes CueRipper, a ripper on par with Exact Audio Copy (EAC isn't portable, but has been the de facto reference for ultimate accurate audio ripping for years now) according to Hidrogen Audio (see its "Comparison of CD rippers" page), despite its DotNET dependency (v2.0, which BTW is no longer considered an issue here at TPFC), I decided to upvote it...
CueRipper is now and until further notice my official audio ripper...

Midas, what better, CueRipper or fre:ac - http://portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=570 ?
Re: CUETools V2.1.2
I really think it all depends on what you're final objectives are -- fre:AC is an excellent all around portable ripping and converting utility, lightweight, natively portable, and exempt from any framework dependencies. It has passed many reviews with flying colors, to the point of CNet staff declaring they've been using it for years at it "is the best tool of its type" they "tried for ripping, converting, and encoding MP3s with the best possible audio quality, including LAME."billon wrote:Midas, what better, CueRipper or fre:ac - http://portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=570 ?
OTOH, if what you want is perfect bitwise renditions of the audio on your optical media for archival purposes, then you'll have to pick one of the selected few entries in Hydrogen Audio's review (even then, YMMV) and expect to be met with somewhat of a learning curve. For this purpose, EAC has been my pick up to now, but CueRipper is the new challenger (no extensively tested yet, though).
Re: CUETools
An experimental CUETools v2.16 has been released (changelog at http://cuetools.net/wiki/CUETools_Changelog).
@webfork: can the OP subject be amended to reflect this topic official status regarding CUETools? Thanks.

there is no user_profiles_enabled in any folder
Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice
Delete the file user_profiles_enabled
Launch CUETools.exe

@giulia: Download and unzip v2.1.6 and you will find this file within the main folder (last entry, if you sort by name)

Re: CUETools - lossless audio/CUE sheet form tools
On cue of Specular's comment, I removed the following passage from CUETools database entry -- unless required, I don't think deprecating references to other programs need to be in any entry's description. But, if only for historical reasons, I still thinks this needs to be mentioned somewhere:

Re: yap and exact audio copy
[Mod note: to avoid topic hijack, the present and next four posts were moved here from the Exact Audio Copy forum thread at viewtopic.php?t=7168]
I will test it
is there even a config for CUETools
thanks and happy new year!!!

Re: Exact Audio Copy
There isn't an example config file for CueTools on the yaP site. However, CueTools is listed in the TPFC database, and according to the entry, it writes some files to AppData. Although I've never used CueTools, I do have it installed and took a quick look in AppData and saw there is a "Cue Tools" folder listed (Note the space in 'Cue Tools"). If that is the only folder it writes to, then configuring a yaP launcher is as simple as:
1. Extract yaP.zip to folder of choice (e.g., CueTools_yaP)
2. Move or copy extracted contents of CueTools to the App folder in CueTools_yaP
3. Rename yaP.exe and yaP.ini files (e.g., CueTools_yaP.exe and CueTools_yaP.ini for the 32-bit version of yaP)
4. Open CueTools_yaP.ini and insert or revise the below lines and save
5. Launch CueTools_yaP.exe
[GENERAL]
Code: Select all
application = App\CueTools.exe
Code: Select all
dir = %Appdata%\Cue Tools
