FileX is a tiny (only 897 KB uncompressed), simple and easy to use, yet capable and efficient encryption tool for files and text using AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard).

Portability
FileX is portable and stealth by design.
- Download the portable installer (filex-portable.exe).
- Extract the portable installer to a folder of your choice- either run it (the installer is 7-Zip self-extracting archive) or extract it using 7-Zip.
- Run FileX.exe.
- Data and settings are saved inside program folder in FileX.dat and FileX.xml files.
FileX requires .NET Framework 4.

FileX is closed-source freeware.

On first run FileX starts in German, to switch from German to English go to Optionen and click the Sprache button.
Files, encrypted by FileX, have extension .filex.
Always use the default folder is enabled by default, when disabled encrypted and decrypted files are saved in source folder.
FileX offers handy context menu and beautiful vertical tool-bar in text panel.
The program window is not resizable but it remembers its desktop position after restart.
The program interface is exquisite- very rarely GUI has impressed me so much.
The developer of FileX- Joachim Strömer, shows an exceptional attention even to the smallest details, for example the icon in the Info panel:
changes colour from blue to orange when hovering the mouse cursor over it:
and clicking the icon opens program website. The links in the Info panel are also clickable.
The developer has released some other portable programs which look very interesting (for example Adress Little seems to be a nice contacts manager) but only few of them are available in English. He told me that he was not planning to translate his other programs to English. If there are German-speaking users here at the forum it would be great if they would like to help with the translation from German to English (I suppose the developer won't mind). Unfortunately I do not speak German.
I plan t submit FileX to the database because I like the program very much and find it very useful.
