I remember downloading Wink Portable sometime last year and it was the full program, went to download it again recently and it was just the wrapper/launcher... weird!

I too remember this, so was a little shocked when I read webforks post about your comment. I believe this is the official PortableApps.com site/post for Wink Portable.

The Wink DB entry needs to be updated; download links are dead. Suggest to switch to a yaP version. Thoughts?

Yeah I let this topic slip.

Sounds good. I'm drawing the YaP steps from DirList but I guess it's something like this:

1. Create a folder named WinkPortable and then a subfolder App
2. Download the program ZIP package, unzip, and then extract wink20.exe using UniExtract,
3. Copy the contents to WinkPortable\App\
4. Download and extract the file yaP.exe to the WinkPortable folder and then rename it to WinkPortable.exe
5. Create an empty text file named WinkPortable\WinkPortable.ini
6. Launch DirListPortable\DirListPortable.exe

@webfork

There is no need for all that, yaP config files are available from http://rolandtoth.hu/yaP/configs/Wink.ini

Direct download @ http://rolandtoth.hu/yaP/package.php?file=Wink.ini

A bit of a slow response here but I’d like to fix the entry or just take it down and if we go the YaP route, I’d like to give a step-by-step on that. What do you recommend?

I reckon Wink Portable database entry (https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=981) needs to be downvoted into private state.

- Wink is not natively portable.
- yaP launcher development has stopped years ago and its official webpage doesn't even abide secure connections (https).

It pains me to say it but, overall, this looks to me just like a disaster waiting to happen and not at all like those cases were TPFC is linking to WinPenPack or PortableApps, which have their own infrastructure to support and update their releases.

It's one of the reasons I haven't spent much time with the yaP toolset, and have preferred reaching out to developers to request portable features.

Would you like to point to the WinPenPack version http://www.winpenpack.com/en/download.php?view.634 (which is not the latest) or just take the entry down?

For the time being and considering it's very much a niche app, I would prefer to see it downvoted into private state and see if enough interest builds up for changing that -- but am OK with any other solution.

Having said that, let me say also that regardless of its shortcomings I remain a fan of yaP -- I have yet to find anything else that matches its rapidity and convenience in cooking up a portable out of any program...

You're right that it's a niche app -- the main issue is that there isn't anything I've found comparable to Wink, except ActivePresenter, which is adware and liteware (some people would call it a demo). As such, I tried a variety of possible routes today to make it work but I'm coming up nil. Even the WinPenPack tool has some extra steps that don't seem to function.

In any case, the entry in it's current form isn't working and I can't say much past that. I'll request Andrew pull it down until we can figure out a resolution.
