Comparison of file hosting sites
Comparison of file hosting sites
I just found this comparison of file hosting sites. It mostly focuses on little-known sites which don't keep access logs ("Logging: No").

@SYSTEM
Thanks for the above pointer.
I was recently looking for an alternate SSL free image hosting service
(my current TinyPic server, apart from not using a secure access protocol, is getting slow as molasses these days)
Two little-known candidates look promising in the above document :
Besides those two, i am also considering/trying out for size the more mainstream :
Would you care sharing any experience/preference you may have between any of those hosting services ?
Ta.

Re: Comparison of file hosting sites
The problem with free hosting sites (and mostly, free image-hosting ones) is they can suddenly vanish without warning.
I also visit this subreddit for image-hosting sites every once in a while:
Thanks for the link to the spreadsheet, SYSTEM. Looks well-organized and researched.

is it stealth?

I use Postimage for image sharing and have been happy with it. I don't really have personal experience with other sites.__philippe wrote: Would you care sharing any experience/preference you may have between any of those hosting services ?

I'll say,... they all pledge to store your images "forever", when they really meanfreakazoid wrote:The problem with free hosting sites (and mostly, free image-hosting ones) is they can suddenly vanish without warning.

@SYSTEM
Appreciate your sentiment about Postimage.

I use mainly Postimage (https://postimage.io/) and imgbox (https://imgbox.com/) for single images and Imgur (https://imgur.com/) for albums. Not so long ago there were problems with Postimage. Thank you for vgy.me (https://vgy.me/)- it looks very cool.

@smaragdus
Appreciate your references to additional free images hosting services, thanks.
It looks like Postimage promptly found some white angels to help operating from a sounder base,
brushing away a looming financial demise orchestrated a while ago by CloudFlare.
Uplifting case of crowdfunding in action, let's wish them well...

Cool indeed :smaragdus wrote: ... Thank you for vgy.me (https://vgy.me/)- it looks very cool.
One of those rare image hosting providers offering public API for uploading pics/videos to their server, ...yummy...!
...and they do handle animated gif's with aplomb, to boot ...

Postimages.org hosting notice
Notice to anyone currently using "postimages.ORG" for hosting...well, images...
Since early April 2018, those kind folks are experiencing a spot of bother with their (former) Registrar.
They have (temporarily ?) switched URL to "postimg.CC"
Fear not, however, a cure is at hand to fix those pesky broken images:
Broken links to images hosted on "postimages.ORG" can be easily restored to their former pristine splendor
by simply replacing the now defunct ".ORG" URL suffix by the snappy new one ".CC"

Re: Comparison of file hosting sites
As a steady user of Postimage.org, I haven't noticed any hiccups -- I think I posted something from there yesterday. But it always pays to be warned, so thank you __philippe.
Also thanks for the tip, smaragdus.

@Midas
It looks like older links (posted before APR18) were not affected...
But I had to fix two broken images links posted 04APR18
YMMV, as the exasperating tongue-twister acronym goes...

Re: Comparison of file hosting sites
Postimages have a portable windows app too. Sorry, late to the party with this thread.

Any links?
Maybe I should repost this tip here, too:
