Peer to Peer File transfer sites no sign ups

#1 Post by tls »

I just recently came upon two file transfer sites. Useful for instances where you need to send large file/s to someone.

Send Anywhere and Justbeamit enables users to share content peer-to-peer between devices in real time. Your files are NOT stored in the cloud. Being peer-to-peer of course requires that the sending computer be continuously on until the transfer finishes.

- no signups or registration to the site/s
- no messing aroung port forwarding
- very easy for simple transfers upload your files and give the recipient the one time code.
- use it to transfer from computers to smartphones and vice-versa
- file recipients can transfer by either going to the website and entering the one time code or if they have android phones they can use the android app.
- no need to clog up your dropbox account with those one time only transfers to friends and family.

Just beam it operates on the same peer-to-peer principle.

For justbeamit the only downside is that because the service is little more than a gateway, the sender can't leave the page until the download is complete, and once both parties leave the page, the transfer link is useless, so if there's a problem, you'll have to start over. Even so, the service works and is incredibly easy to use.

Because of the peer-to-peer nature, recipient download will depend or max out at the upload speed of sender. The sender's upload speed will depend on the upload speed of his internet plan. My ISP caps my upload at 0.9 mbit. For example a 10mByte file (from my computer connected to my ISP) transfered to a friend's phone connected to a different ISP takes 80-100 seconds :)

SendAnywhere is great. My family use it to transfer files between iOS/Android devices.

No login is great, plus it just works at pretty great speed.

Dang - wish I'd known about justbeamit two weeks ago.  That would have saved me a lot of trouble.

If using a stock android browser as recipient and cant find the successfully downloaded files you can use "Search Everything" for android. A search engine similar to our favorite Everything.

Of course I'm still hoping voidtools will make an equivalent for android :)

Another one from browser to browser: http://file.pizza/ ... works with FFox and Chrome.

... care of Ghacks:

Edit: I tested file.pizza with mixed success. Two devices on the same network transferred a file very slowly. It's okay for files like documents but not media files like music/movies.

Works using WebRTC, which is pretty cool. Over the summer I am going to stitch together some custom multi-chat web page using WebRTC.
