Re: How to delay programs at start up? [i.e. startup managers]

Hi again,

Delayed Start author clearly states in the last paragraph before download link:
"Because of program design some stupid so called antiviruses can treat DS as potentially dangerous".
That's all.

Good luck

koStart seems to do what you're looking for

Thanks for the heads-up.

DotNET dependencies one thing I wish Softpedia was a little more straightforward about.

This would be pretty simple to create in AutoIt.

Edit: The design of the application is quite bad as you have to have an understanding of batch files, it also doesn't take in to account programs already in the startup folder or registry.

Would you please consider persuading the chairman of SoftwareSpot :mrgreen: to release a nicer substitute free of DotNET dependencies?

Which is by itself quite a flaw!

This is different approach but for me it works:

I'm using Executor to launch multiple applications. E.g. I have the keyword "0" configured to launch Opera, Total Commander and PowerPro. Earlier these applications started with Windows but I decided to launch them manually. This way they only starts when I need them.
(Executor also has an option to start applications when it starts up)

Re: Startup Delayer, WinPatrol, Oolauncher

I would vouch for Startup Delayer, which I've been using for a long time -- it isn't portable (to the best of my knowledge) but the Standard version is free... (comparison matrix at www.r2.com.au /page/products/premium-edition/startup-delayer/).

If I'm not mistaken, there's something very similar hidden somewhere in WinPatrol, too...

Oolauncher has most of the functions of the old (non-DotNET v2.x) Startup Delayer (minus the nicer interface and drag'n'drop), appears to be portable (saves settings to 'settings.ini' in program folder) and also doesn't require any DotNET...
http://oolauncher.deskangel.com/ wrote:oolauncher.deskangel.com]Oolauncher is an application launching management. Oolauncher will import start programs from following position:
  • * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    * %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
    * %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
All imported start[up] programs will be removed from its original position. If you want to restore them to their original position, just click Restore button[!] It gets auto-start applications from registry and start folders and starts them one by one. It offers much more options than windows to launch an application, like order, priority, window show style and etc. By adjusting the starting order and launching style, it can save much booting time when you restarting your system.
Oolauncher (currently v1.0.0.6) is at https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2114 (download from www.softpedia.com /get/System/Launchers-Shutdown-Tools/Oolauncher.shtml).

Executor also has a "Wait" command ($W$):

When combined with its startup commands functionality, you can do so neat stuff.
is it stealth? ;)

MultiRun is portable, although it's 32 bit only and not Unicode compliant -- check the homepage at http://www2.webng.com/MikeB/MultiRun/multirun.html...

Just as a side-note yaP can also be configured to launch applications with delay (combining keywords run & delay) :)

Thanks for having revived this thread, Midas :mrgreen:

I recently moved to Win 8.1 (was actually forced to... Between you and I, I profoundly hate it) and I am really in the need of a good startup tool.

Going to test Startup Delayer, Oolauncher and MultiRun... See which one works on Win 8.1 (that's always a mystery) and delivers ;)

Excellent point, tproli, and quite befitting the topic. Thanks. 8)

Just paying it forward -- but glad to see it working. 8)

EDIT1: I just came across previously unmentioned RunDelayed (http://www.tools.toflo.de/RunDelayed/).

EDIT2: I just came across previously unmentioned SterJo Startup Patrol (viewtopic.php?t=20437).

EDIT3: apparently, Splat can also be used as startup manager (https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2667).

EDIT4: just noticed KC Softwares Startup Sentinel (SUS) is yet another (allegedly portable?) startup manager (https://www.kcsoftwares.com/?sus).
