TaskBar Hider

#1 Post by dot »

Just found this little gem (only 74,4KB, extracted) from here. Needs no installation. Added 2 Keys, 6 Values and changed 4 Values in registry.

It hides the task bar with a hotkey.

This one has the advantage that you can change the hotkey, and, above all: after hiding the task bar, it allows you to resize any window to full screen and cover the empty space that was left behind by the, now hidden, task bar. Other task bar hiders that I tried don't do that. They just leave the empty space at the bottom and you can't cover it.

(As I know that there are quite a few users of PowerPro here: PowerPro's *Desktop > Hide(Show)taskbar command doesn't allow to fill out the empty space either.)

Tried on a few boxes and determined that problem is likely
a registry key affecting window behavior.

A quick work around which you may dislike:
1.) Reduce full-size window to a smaller size.
2.) Pull window to a bottom corner (fitting against bottom and side).
3.) Drag free hanging top corner to opposite corner (opposite of bottom corner in step 2).
4.) Window fills screen (remember once taskbar is returned this window setting will remain until reset)
5.) To undo this workaround just click the box to toggle size twice it will reset automatically.

This should use the entire screen.
No it is not automatic.
No it doesn't just snap to it and fill the empty space.

If you would like to fix this just identify the registry entry and the desired settings, then set a way to quickly toggle this setting.

I just check this one out because I really needed a program like it and found:
  1. It basically makes the taskbar invisible, meaning if you full screen something, you'll still see your desktop background where your taskbar was. Is this supposed to be a privacy tool when you don't want folks to see what programs you're running?
  2. (As the entry states) this isn't portable.
Why is this in the database?
