Personal Backup

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Download Update as Zip file. Navigation on the site is a little awkward, but you'll find it.

The FAQs claim it's portable:
It is possible to configure Personal Backup in a way that it can be started from an USB stick without leaving marks on the host PC (Vers. 4.1.3.2 and newer). Copy all files from the program directory (usually C:\Programme\Personal Backup 4) or the downloadable Zip file to a directory on the USB stick (e.g. K:\PersBack). Use the command line options /ini:[IniFile] and /taskdir:[Directory]. The options set the program to use an ini file and a task directory on the USB stick.

Then create a batch file in the root directory of the USB stick using a texteditor (e.g. startpb.cmd) with the following lines:
@echo off
echo Start Personal Backup from USB-Stick
start PersBack\PersBackup.exe /i:%%progpath%%\pb.ini /t:%%progpath%%\

Start the program from USB stick using this batch command and configure your backup task.
There is a comprehensive online help section.

Program function for verification of backed-up files
Junctions (hard links for directories) can optionally be evaluated during backup to save disk space
Reduction in Windows resources usage (this allows a backup to be initiated using a shutdown script)
Note: The file extension for encrypted gzip files has been changed to gze, because the used file format used is not compatible with the standard

Settings are written to Persbackup.ini in the application folder but it still creates Persbackup.cfg in AppData\Roaming\PersBackup5 for the check for update feature.

Please update the screenshot in your first post. Thanks.

Oops, forgot to mention that it also writes the IniPath to the registry @ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PersonalBackup5 :(

Quick note and warm applause for a statement from the author of Personal Backup:
author of http://personal-backup.rathlev-home.de/index-e.html wrote:Of late, ever more download sites make freeware programs available not in their original version but with modified installers or using download managers. The latter can be recognized by their relatively small file size (mostly about 500 kB) and in either case the user may run the risk that additional, unwanted programs, such as browser toolbars and adware or spyware, will be installed without warning. Subsequent removal of this software often turns out to be very difficult. To avoid any tacit support of such unfair practices, I have removed all links to download sites offering anything other than my original setup files.
I'll take this opportunity to re-post a screenshot...

I haven't check it thoroughly but settings seem to be saved to the "Settings" subfolder.

Thank you, tproli!

So, this app is not natively portable. Would be nice to see it removed from this subforum.
