Anyone use portable linux distibutions?
A friend of mine recommends Puppy Linux. It's only 60 mb on your flash drive, and comes with many everyday apps.
Sounds like the ultimate portable freeware.
Anyone know of other good portable OS'??
PC
Portable Linux
DSL
Damn Small Linux (DSL) is portable and it can even be run inside of Windows with a special version. It's only 50 MB too!

These are some great recommendations. How about a portable linux install that's tailored for developers? I'm a C++ developer and need to be able to take a good development environment with me. I usually use Visual Studio, and I know I won't be able to take that with me, but something similar would be nice. I prefer to not use Vi or the command line, so a good IDE would be best.
I use Puppy Linux as well on my USB drive. What I did was to take advantage of QEMU-Puppy which allows you to run Puppy Linux either under the QEMU emulator, so it would run as a virtual machine under Windows, or to boot Puppy from the USB drive if your BIOS supports that. Pretty cool either way. The files can be found here.
Also googtimetribe, I know I'm a little late with the reply (just found this great site today!), but have you taken a look at the Bloodshed Dev C++ system? I played with the Bloodshed Dev Pascal system awhile back, but didn't really do much with the C++. Might be worth a try!
Looks like it's time to get a bigger USB drive!

I run Damn Small Linux from a miniCD. It can also be installed to a USB Drive. You can boot from that drive if the motherboard supports it.
There's a version of it packageds as a QEMU virtual machine for Windows called Metropipe PortableVirtualPrivacyMachine.
