Re: Portable Freeware Submission - .net category
It should probably be a special one if it is with apps and updates not listed on the homepage or the main RSS feed. .NET apps still won't work on most public PCs (library, school, net cafe, hotel business center) as most of those are XP without .NET manually added to them. We're adding it at PortableApps.com as an optional category that won't be visible to users by default.

This has been discussed before quite a while ago, with a poll mostly in favor of it. Its really up to Andrew whether he wants to set something like that up.
Happily, Java appears to be itself portable so it may not need its own section.

Re: Portable Freeware Submission - .net category
I believe only Stealth Portable .NET applications should be considered and only if there is no alternative application available, e.g. Transmute is a perfect example.

.NET Stats
Since it was referenced via the link to the other thread, I updated my .NET stats to reflect the current Windows OS stats from October 2010: http://johnhaller.com/jh/useful_stuff/d ... able_apps/

Thank you, Andrew.Andrew Lee wrote:I have added a new category: "Others - .NET Apps".

Re: Portable Freeware Submission - .net category
My mistake -- it was a poll for a separate forum thread, not an entry category change. Considering what goes into moving all the thread posts concerning .NET stuff into a new area vs. just adding another category, this is a pretty big difference.webfork wrote:This has been discussed before quite a while ago, with a poll mostly in favor of it.

Oh, but that's all I was asking for, a seperate forum category for .net apps. Apologies if it wasn't clear from my initial post.webfork wrote:My mistake -- it was a poll for a separate forum thread, not an entry category change. That one was all me. In reading as many posts as I do, I guess there's a tendency to skim topics.I am Baas wrote:Apologies if it wasn't clear from my initial post.
Re: Portable Freeware Submission - .net category
I have only managed to add 1 .NET Application there, because I can't think of anymore that are in TPFC.

If you include a few from the private listings ...

Vote if you have not considered it yet.
And what about this one Software Ideas Modeler
For those able to use it, and enthusiastic about it, you may consider updating this properly and or voting it into the public view as well.

Re: Portable Freeware Submission - .net category
This will not work !! Think in prospective, 150 apps inside with all same categoryAndrew Lee wrote:I have added a new category: "Others - .NET Apps".
Let the .NET Apps get a own category with sub-category
Re: Portable Freeware Submission - .net category
I think it will work. Firstly not many people add to TPFC anyway, secondly the number of applications which have been .NET has been very minimal. Thirdly I and many other users still have a negative feeling towards .NET applications, so if 150 are added in the next year I will be very surprised. Fourthly the .NET applications can still be added to separate categories, it's just easier to segregate the .NET from the non .NET! So no problem
