Proposed change to forum RSS feed title format

#1 Post by Andrew Lee »

Currently, the title format for the forum RSS feed is:

Code: Select all

    <forum name> :: <subject>
eg.

Code: Select all

    Portable Freeware Submission :: Small portable freeware emulator list
I have received feedback that this title format has problems with RSS feed readers that truncates message titles eg. Firefox:

Code: Select all

    Portable Freeware Submission :: Small port...
Therefore, I am thinking of reversing the title format to:

Code: Select all

    Small portable freeware emulator list :: Portable Freeware Submission
If you have any comments, please let me know by the end of the week. Otherwise, I will be making the change next Monday or so.

a good way, at least for me, to manage my (and yours) TPFC RSS subscriptions, and a bit more...

Image Image Image Image Image

about the "TPFC Forum Index" and "The Portable Freeware Collection" they are the same (http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/rss.php), I just think that it'll be better to give it (The Portable Freeware Collection) other name, for 2 reasons:
a. there is already The Portable Freeware Collection (http://feeds.feedburner.com/pfc)
b. here at http://portablefreeware.com/forums/index.php I see "The Portable Freeware Collection Forum Index", it's too long so I did TPFC!

but this is only me :)

Hi!

Since it's RSS related i thought i could post it here.

Obviously on february 5th you changed the url in the RSS from
eg.

Code: Select all

Article:
* http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1403
to

Code: Select all

Article:
* http://feeds.feedburner.com/1071+1202169538
When i click the new link i get the following error message (using Opera):

Image

Anybody else has problems with that?

Thank you.

Greetings
Torpedro

I think you must have caught the feed during a bad time.

The URL is now in the form:

http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1403&ts=nnnnnnnn

The reason for the change is detailed here.

OK, with this hidden URL (http://www.portablefreeware.com/feedburner.php) i get a link to portablefreeware. (Opera still uses the bad URL when selecting the RSS directly from the page).
BUT the link is in this form:

Code: Select all

http://www.portablefreeware.com/1406+1203942087
where i get

Code: Select all

Not Found
The requested URL /1406 was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
because the correct URL is used in the form:

Code: Select all

http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1406+1203942087
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1406+1203942087

Is there another hidden Link for the perfect RSS feed?

Thank you!

Can someone else verify this please?

I am pretty sure the URL of the feed items is in the format that I have described.

Verified with Firefox, Greatnews and Google Reader.
