haven't tried that program out yet but I really don't trust things like that...does everything automatic and dealing with registries just make me a lil nervous.

anyway this tutorial is for noobs (like me) who what to use NSIS to make a application portable, and this is the best one I've found that explains how and what everything works/does.

And that's good. There will never be 100% correct way of portabilizing stuff that doesn't use virtualization.

Automated

It automate it and still let you change all settings; it is not locked like a thinapp but is open so you can alter everything

ThinApp has scripting support, so it isn't locked either. You can't alter everything, but enough to portabilise anything.
And I seriously don't see any significant difference between changing settings and writing a launcher.

...ANYWAY...

this post was mainly for the tutorial not the portable app builder (or w/e it's called).

I still recommend the tutorial over the builder..at least this way you have an understanding on what the program is doing rather then relying on someone else's script.
