Looking for ISO Editor

#1 Post by mynokia »

Hi everybody, I have some ISO files and I need to add/delete some files inside them. So that I'm looking for an ISO Editor (like Ultra ISO, WinISO). Do you know any freeware of this kind, portable is prefer but it's ok if not portable?

Thank you very much.

I use ISO Commander, but it is neither free nor portable. I searched for a free tool, but unfortunately with no result.

One possibility is to "burn" the ISO to a virtual drive, edit the folders/files and then rebuild the ISO. A very basic tool for mounting the virtual CD is "Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP" (http://www.portablefreeware.com/download.php?dd=624 - in CD/DVD - Emulation). No bells and whistles, but it does what it is supposed to do and it is portable and very easy to handle.

I forgot: You can't edit directly in the virtual CD-drive. Copy all files and folders to another location first, then edit and rebuild from that folder.

Iso master

Try iso master.

http://www.littlesvr.ca/isomaster/

Isomaster is free for Linux and there is a 15 days testing version for Windows.

Success!

7-Zip & Folder2Iso

You can use 7-Zip to browse ISO images and extract files from them. After editing you can re-create the ISO with Folder2Iso.

Both tools are free and portable:

Folder2Iso

Both methods: The one described by Kea and the one by Hank7 are good to add and delete contents to an ISO, except when you have to edit booting properties of booting ISOs. In that case you need pograms that can edit the booting devices or booting sectors of the ISO.

To rebuild the ISO after changing its contents, adding booting properties I recommend, instead Folder2ISO, a small portable easy tool, MGISO:

Not free.
You can use UltraISO. Not free too, but "trial" for unlimited time with nag-screen:

I haven't find full-free portable editors (many programs can create ISO-files, but not edit). :(

Haven't tested it in any way, but ISO Workshop (http://www.glorylogic.com/iso-workshop.html) says it's free...
